Bad Songs to Get Stuck in Your Head While Riding

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That song is not good while riding, but when I need to laugh a little at work, it's one of the first things I think of.

I seem to get the theme music from "Elmo's World" stuck in my head while climbing. Perfect cadence for me.

I also get the classical piece played during the "Cinzano" race in Breaking Away stuck in my head.

Doesn't help that when riding with CyLowe97 he comes up on me yelling, "Da, Daa, Daa, Daaaa. Duh,Duh,Duh,Duh,Duh,Duh,Duh,Duh,Duh,Duh,Duh,DAAAAA, DAAAAAAAAAA - buongiorno!!"

Makes me wish I carried a frame pump sometimes....

Funny you should say that... I just watched that movie again tonight.

Edit: Breaking Away, not an Elmo movie.

's a world of laughter
- A world of tears
It's a world of hopes
- And a world of fears
There's so much that we share
- That it's time we're aware
It's a small world after all

It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small, small world

There is just one moon
- And one golden sun
And a smile means
- Friendship to every one
Though the mountains divide
- And the oceans are wide
It's a small world after all

It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small, small world

Young man, there's no need to feel down.
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy.

Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.

My soon to be 4-year old daughter's been on a musicals kick lately. After repeated viewings of The Sound of Music I found myself on a long ride singing "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?"

My MP3 player doesn't have a single song on it that I don't like, so I wouldn't know that feeling re OP. I am getting tired of hearing David Bowie's Running Gun Blues though. For some reason the random play feature seems to select that one with more frequency than I'd like. Makes me think something's wrong with the thing. When I'm sans MP3 player - probably because I don't listen to music I don't like, I can't say I ever have a song in my head I don't like.

However, if there is any one song that would ruin my ride it would be Every Rose Has A Thorn by Poison. Jesus Christ that song sucks!

F'n Christmas carols. They seem to stick in there really well, and it's always with some kind of muzak accompaniment. 100km of Hark the Herald Angels Sing is a terrible fate for an atheist.

Damn. My wife stuck the Brady Bunch song in my head the other day. Curse her!

I always ride with an ipod but I don't turn it on until I'm out of town and on country roads. I had that thing rolling around in my head for a good 20 minutes before I blasted it out of there with some Gorillaz.

I have my workout playlist on my iPod which I'll ride with sometimes. My gym playlist was intentionally chosen to enrage me...mostly heavy metal and violent rap songs...so those would be the worst to have while riding as I have found out. It gives me the energy but I also get that "roid rage" and want to break stuff but can't since I'm on a bike. Haha, a stupid dilemma to get into.

Conversely, I listen to trance music on the bike trainer at the gym...the fast BPM makes is quite effective in keeping a high cadence.

Coincidentally Fatboy has also produced quite a few other 'perfect cycling' songs for the mental playlist:

-Sunset (aka Bird of Prey)
-Right Here, Right Now
-Star 69
-Drop the Hate
-Everybody Needs A 303

When I took my trip to ride with some BFers on the BRP, I had one of the worst songs stuck in my head. I don't even like the artist.

It was Fergie, Girls Don't Cry. I told my then 16yo daugther and see has made fun of it ever since.

This weekend in North Texas the wind was howling with gusts of 25 - 30mph. I was singing Dust in the Wind to myself.

Sunday morning, getting ready to ride, feeling really good, wanted to really drope the hamer so I synced my iPod, thinking I was adding "Breathe" by:

Ended up adding "Breathe" by:

The ride was very different to the one I had planned!
