At some point it's going to outweigh the benefit of riding in it.
Glad the fire got handled, poor air could have been the least of your worries.

Just a quick 20-miler to Redmond and back on the Sammamish River Trail after my last class of the day. In street clothing, no less; I've been doing that a lot this year.
Since I normally take the Medici to school, it was today's bike choice. Note I finally got around to re-wrapping the bars!
I also ran out of the shellac flakes @rootboy sent me, so I picked up some pre-mixed stuff from the hardware store. It's thicker, and shinier, but it will keep my tape from fading/turning brown and stop it from rolling/splitting as happened earlier in the summer:

Been in Montreal QC and Burlington VT for the past few days. I managed to get in some short rides. Here are some pix.
A couple bikes I spotted at lunch today at The Spot (recommended):
and the windmill/really fat tire wheel out front:
The turnaround point on yesterday's ride just past Muddy Brook Park (lots of high water after the rain on Halloween):
At History on the Rocks:
Hetchins hanging above the basement stairs in Outdoor Gear Adventure:
View from Chalet Mont-Royal in Montreal (recommend the ride up):
My son lives in Kansas City, but somehow finds time to sell real estate in Montreal.

This is a ride I've wanted to do for a while. The climb and the cold air kicked my butt, but it was worth it. I don't know how many more like this I'll get in this year. The details:
Took the Ironman into the forest.
I made it!
Views
The descent home was fast and cold. A very large German Shepherd saw me coming and HEADED ME OFF at one point. I had to stop and dismount. Smart ****ing dog! He went back across the road and left me alone.
All in all, it was still a great ride.

Rode out for an hour and back for an hour with my pal Jacob on the Green River Trail, starting in Tukwila. Got in just under 25 miles - and we got to play Good Samaritan to a woman who was suffering from the worst case of chain-suck I have ever seen:
My apologies if neither photo clearly shows what is going on, but hey - it took me a good minute to understand what the hell had happened, and I was right there!
Jacob had a multi-tool with a chain-breaker, which was REALLY lucky - we could not have fixed it without it! She was thrilled she wasn't going to have to walk 10+ miles back to her car. We suggested she leave it in a gear she was comfy with (seen in the photo below), then hit up her LBS, let them know what had happened and have them take a look at her brifters to see if there was a defect or something.
This spot happened to be our turnaround point. I got a few more pics on the way back, too.
Jacob's got quite a wingspan, doesn't he?
A shady pair:
When I got back home and downloaded the car, the weather was still nice so I dropped everything at my place, put my Sidis back on and took off for another 25 miles on my trusty Redmond loop. It was getting a bit cold on the return leg as the sun was almost down and I was sweating pretty good. All in all, a nice day in the saddle - twice.

Did a halloween candy-fueled ride to the South Loop. Haven't done this in nearly a decade. It was 42 degrees and cloudy went I set out this morning. Not bad, considering that it snowed a few days ago. Accessed the path in Edgewater.
Immediately, I noticed a huge improvement in the path since I has last ridden it 10 years ago. Pedestrians and cyclists, now have dedicated lanes. The path is also much wider and many of the road crossings have been eliminated. Hooray!
There was a pretty stiff headwind, but the sun came out and warmed things up into the low 50s by the time I got downtown. I never get tired of all the great architecture here.
Kept heading south until I got to Soldier Field. While I took this photo, the Bears were busy in Kansas City losing to the Chiefs.
On the way back north, I popped into the museum campus. Here's looking north along the old Illinois Central tracks. Not much freight anymore, but still runs the Metra Electric and South Shore commuter lines.
Stopped at the Agora. Really cool to see up close.
Not much action at the skatepark.
Stopped at Navy Pier to fill up on water. The trained eye will note the "fresh breeze" exercising the flags in the background.
Finished off the candy and enjoyed the tailwind home.

Lovely!
Quick question for all of you fendered fall riders:
What do you do when leaves get stuck in between your tire and fender? I have full coverage fenders with mudflaps on my Trek and if I take the local rail-to-trail path in the fall I spend most of my time stopping and picking leaves out from my fenders. It's not a safety issue, I just can't stand hearing the leaves scraping against my tires and making an annoying whistling noise.
Do you just deal with the noise or do you stop and clean things out? Or am I alone in my misery?

I rode this year's first commute in the dark today. Great fun riding by headlight except for all the cyclists without lights and the pedestrians who never learned to wear bright clothing.

I haven't checked in on this thread lately, and I've been missing out. Great shots everyone! Love all the fall colors. The closest I can offer is a smokey California sunset over the bay (this from over the weekend).

*FINALLY*... I was able to get out my beloved 1985 Fuji Del Rey and go for a nice ride, while I had free time!
As a member of the Shriners Band here in town, we always play the Oktoberfest, and do gig after gig after gig all through the month of October, raising money for The Shriners Hospital. So, as you can guess, I had absolutely NO free time on the weekends at all, so I didn't even ride once last month!
Anyway, I cleaned up my '85 Fuji, double checked the air pressure, and went for a nice quick ride in the western suburbs here in Richmond, VA. Very speedy ride with Strava enabled on my phone, clipped into the holder on the handlebars. 12.09 miles in 45:07 for a quick 16.1 mph speed.

Hadn't been out to Vallejo since the fire. Burned right up to the Maritime Academy.
Old conning tower has a permanent home.
And got kicked off an active movie set. Some kind of space age garbage truck...

Hello, As mentioned in another post I am here with my students for 2 weeks and we decided to visit the Forbidden City which is close to my hotel.
Instead of taking a taxi, I decided to rent an electric bike...quite a different experience from either Shanghai or the USA, no real traffic rules/laws, only "suggestions", so a bit dangerous!
No electrics allowed in the Forbidden City or the Temple of Heaven but here are some pics of the interior.
Enjoy, Ben

Got the old '73 Raleigh Super Course out for a 45 mile partly gravel ride over Sulfur Mtn, between Ventura and Ojai, CA, with 3200' of climbing. It was a club ride, with 3 Richie steel touring bikes, Diamondback and Cannondale MTBs, a Canyon CX carbon, and some other modern carbon. I was the only one on vintage steel. The Eroica cheater set up worked great with a Sugino triple with a 32t granny and a Megarange 34t 6 speed and 28c Paselas. The old Raleigh performed great on 14 miles of fire road, with some crazy steep climbs, both paved and dirt. Its my second time on the Raleigh over this road, and the old bike never ceases to amaze me.
Beginning of dirt portion of trail, just off Highway 33.
Free range cattle, meant crossing 5 of these.
View from the top, looking west.
My first ever bike build, from 2016. Pushing 90° today, so I added a second bottle holder where the frame pump usually goes.
Heading home on the Ojai bike trail.

I feel so inferior. Such great pics here. I have none to post. Been commuting, don't want to stop and take pics.
Today was challenging. Temperature around 30degF both ways, strong headwinds. Had a flat this morning.

A wee ride round Koh Dach (Silk Island) in Cambodia
Here is my 1982 Bridgestone Eurasia on Koh Dach north of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. A nice 55km ride exploring somewhere I have wanted to go for a while.

I get this all too well.
Yesterday I was riding with our regular group. One of the guys had fenders and got a stick caught in the front wheel and it jammed up under the fender.
Sorry to report he ended up with two cracked ribs and a whacked front fork on his Goodrich.
He will heal, but Curt Goodrich isn't building atm.
Maybe Joel at Clockwork will build him a fork when the time comes!
Not sure what the lesson is here, but fall is a bit risky with leaves/tree debris on the paths/roads.
Be safe out there.

It was a British steel ride for me yesterday, too, north of Boston:
When we were on roads, it looked like this, but most of the route was on unpaved surfaces:
I was on my '74 Norman Fay tourer:
This morning a friend and I rode up to the Blue Hill observatory just south of Boston, but I was on much more contemporary steel:
