Bob Jackson $100?

Hey Guys,

This sounds to me like a no brainer, but maybe I'm missing something? Looking at a small Bob Jackson with suntour Cyclone group. Seller says that the "spring detents on the shifter are not strong enough" and it needs new shifters? I come from the fixed gear world so Im not familiar enough to know if this is a muffler bearing situation or an actual issue. At $100 I figure I cant go wrong but wanted a second opinion. FWIW frame looks like is scratched and dirty but not bent/dented.

Thanks in advance!

No brainer unless it's a stolen bike. For that price, that is a concern.

@HankHeel, You can post some pictures to your Bike Forums Albums.

https://www.bikeforums.net/g/user/502793

Does the bike fit? Do want/need it?

A lot of vintage parts can be replaced or upgraded. Or sometimes just tightened.

It sounds like it is probably a good deal if the bike fits.

Thanks guys. Its for the wife, it should be close but I dont have geo specs on it and havent gotten my hands on it so I cant say for sure. I think at this price I can either make it fit or resell and make a couple dollars towards one that does fit nicely. If I grab it tonight Ill add some photos for you.

There are deals that are so hot that one shouldn't spend the time to post them on then internet when you should be on your way to pick up the bike.

Should be a great deal shifter's likely only need adjusting if not you can pic up a nice shift group that should work with this bike for less than $50 so not a big deal.

Well I bought it! I dont know if the link will work but Ill include the link to the listing. Paint is rough but not missing anywhere. Shifters definitely need some work. Bars need changed, but it has a carbon fork Ill swap out for the original. All in all I think it was a good deal, thanks for pushing me over the edge guys.

Good deal? It was a great deal if it's authentic and not destroyed!

It worked. Sorry for my messy basement. Carbon fork is for sale, putting original back on. Also bars and levers are going. Want to update the drivetrain as well.

Yes it actually fits my wife, with a little less seat post than in the photo. Im 5'9" and the guy I bought it off of said it was just too small for him, him being a few inches taller than me.

I think you did good even if you end up changing out some of the lesser components and wheel set for something a little more appropriate for this level frame set. This bike really should have a nicer wheel set and a fairly decent indexed component group. You won't be under water if you keep the build under $500 or so you have a lot of room value wise to work with.

why is there a downtube cable stop? Scares me a little about the mechanical ability of the previous owner. Too bad the fork was swapped out

More concerning is using a seat collar as a spacer on the head tube. Might be worth having a bike shop assess that part of the bike.

That set of black cyclone derailleurs alone sell for close to the price of the bike. Great buy

A lot of nicer late 80''s early 90's frames had this type cable stop.
