Libertas ?

The fellas at one of my LBS's asked me about this bike they have. My recollection was Belgian (but I have not seen many around here). Perhaps I can get some help from those here on the forum, or even some leads for them. Thanks in advance, MH

I've got one that I need to rebuild but mine has a full reynolds 531 frame and campy drop outs. It is Belgian and it is british threaded. The huret drop outs probably means that the tubing is decent on this bike but the Huret drop outs are a PITA when it comes to finding a derailleur that will work. There are ways to mod it so that a suntour/campy RD will work, though.

If you're looking for a value, I'd say right around $50-$75.

Oww! Nice! I'd want that if it were my size. And I'd happily pay $75 for it.

I own only one, but I really like it. Nothing wrong with fitting Huret derailleurs, BTW.

Well vintage bikes that come in orange are more valuable, right?

Do you know what the tubing is? Given the forged drop outs, I'd have guessed something decent.

The higher end Huret drops chromed and paint style place it as upper mid level from the early 70;s. so likely a good quality tube set but unknown seat tube diameter, outside tube diameter and BB threading will likely help with ID on likely tubing. As for value I would say $100-125 plus shipping good chance if you list it her on the BF's someone will want it.

They took it apart thinking they would sell as components, but I'm sure they still have everything including the Huret derailer and the Universal brakes and hangers for the cables. I just wish they had called me before they took it apart. I haven't had my hands on it so not sure of seat tube diameter, but the decals look to be Reynolds copies which may have been done by design. I think it had a Star crank set on it, like a TA copy. Again thanks for the help! Smiles, MH

Definitely. And almost as fast as red ones.

No. I checked the seatpost, and it's 26.2. That, and the weight of the bike - a little over 25 lbs - suggest it's not particularly high end.

Went into the bike shop today. Seat tube inner diameter measures 26.4 and the Center to top is 60 cm. If anyone is interested in It pm me and I'll pass the info along to Scott (who is a co-owner of the shop). Smiles, MH
