Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We have your typical 82 degrees +/- 2 in central Oahu, but regardless of the temp, when you are at Lat 22N the sun is HOT.

We've been having such beautiful weather ... highs of about 17C, sunny, light winds. I wished I could be cycling today.

For some reason, 17C here feels warmer. I don't know what it is ... I've experienced 17C elsewhere in the world and have felt rather chilly. But here, the sun almost seems more intense or something.

As I mostly complain about in the Weekend Cycling Report thread…it is hot. I think it is actually above normal hot for this time of year, low to mid 90’s with the feel like in the triple digits. I can only stand it by getting out early in the a.m. for a bike ride. There’s probably at least two more months to get through then hopefully some relief in late October.

Hard to beat the Mid Atlantic this summer for weather. Not your typical VA swelter. High today in RVA around 80 and sunny. I'll take it!

The weather in the SF Bay Area is almost always good riding weather. Ranging from overcast cool(58 degrees)to sunny and warm(78 degrees). Plus you can't beat the sights. Come take a ride for free with a local rider at thelocalsroute.com.

Just leaving the Turks and Caicos, had to stay an extra day because the "hurricane" shut down the airport. You'd think they could have handled 10 inches of rain....

Or, as we call it in North Texas this time of year "just another day". I did the HHH in Wichita Falls last Saturday. It was around 103 at the end with plenty of wind.

Its hot here in Southwest Florida, but most importantly, we have our daily afternoon thundershowers. I have never been a get up and get after it workout guy, but I'm now out the door every morning to get a ride in before work, because chances are good an after work ride will be rained out or else hot. Nice to get out early anyway to avoid the traffic. We also have some pretty steady winds, especially later in the day. But we have had some serious winds in the last couple of days from the storm over on the east coast. Pretty strong wind coming out of the southeast.

I grew up in the Wichita Falls area. Graduated from Midwestern State U. All of my relatives are spread throughout West Texas. I have a brother that lives in Wichita Falls. He works HHH every year.(Fireman and EMT) I moved to VA 25 years ago and haven't really looked back. One of these years I'm going back to ride the HHH. Every year I say that and then look at the HHH weather. Then I decide to put it off another year.

It's a very hard ride to do if you don't have the high temperatures to train in. I do numerous group rides throughout the year starting around April. As well as riding almost every day. My ultimate goal is the HHH. After that I slack off a little. Based on the large number of rides I do, the HHH is the best organized and supported ride I know of. Not just by the people working the event, but the entire community. On the ride people in cars pass very slowly and often drive on the shoulder to give the riders space. This is not the case for many rides I've been on.

In the Bay Area ,CA it is nice and cool (60F) in the morning and a bit warm (85-90F) with light winds. Perfect riding temperatures for me.

This

The Bay Area is very good weather for cycling. I've only missed 4 (weekend) rides since Oct...one because it was a tad too cold for me to ride (I wear only shorts) and one day that was raining (I don't care to ride in the rain...though I wish I had missed more days for this reason...we need rain bad) and 2 last couple of weeks because I was in Hawaii

73 and sunny. Weather forecasts suggest a toasty high of 80-84 although the morning was perfect in the 60s.

This is very typical - historic August averages are a daily high of 79 degrees, overnight low of 57, and 0.08 inches of precipitation for the month.

And most importantly ... is it good cycling weather?
Yes.

NYC has had a good summer, not too hot or humid. I prefer September weather here. I hope to be moving to San Diego soon, I despise winter.

I live in the Richmond VA area. VA usually has not quite as much heat, but lots of humidity. Usually, but not this year. This has been the mildest summer I can remember since I moved here. We had maybe one week where we hit triple digits or got close. The rest of the summer has been mostly highs in the mid to high 80's and lower. In July and August we have been in the 50's some at night. The main difference between here and North Texas is we don't reach those higher temperatures until after lunch. Then about 7pm or so, it starts cooling off. None of that walking out of the house at 10pm and it is still 90 degrees. The humidity is high though. I ran a half marathon on Saturday. At the start it was 71 degrees, overcast with 96% humidity. Sticky! My glasses were fogging over for the first mile or so. People were complaining about the weather.

Been pretty morning foggy with occasional noon sun breaks followed by strong afternoon winds out of NW (say 12-20 mph) with heavy evening fog. Mild temps (60's) with high humidity (95%). I've ramped back riding for a variety of reasons but the biggest is high recreational traffic...events & sport fishing means more autos and hundreds of trucks towing boats early morn (best time to ride) and my favorite MUP is jammed with walkers late afternoon. Once Labor Day passes/schools start, the fall recreation season arrives and riding becomes fun.
