Building up a Jeunet 620 - Brake Choice?
I will be building up a Jeunet 620 over the winter. I have most of the parts already except brakes and drop bars.
I'll be using Campy Nuovo Record Front and rear derailleurs, cable guide and shifters, Normandy hubs and Mavic tubular rims. Have an Avocet Seat post.
Cranks are Shimano 600 / FC-6200 (That's all I could find in 165mm and they look very close to Nuovo Record cranks)
Looking for some opinions-- What would you choose for brakes that might match up well with what I've got so far? Mafac Racers or Competition, Nuovo Record, Spidel, something else?

I use both Mafac Racers and Nuovo Record brakes. Both work well and would look fine on the Jeunet. I would not use the Mafac levers though; they require much too far a reach to have acceptable leverage. I match the Mafac calipers with Nuovo Record levers on my old bikes. Weinmann levers also are good, if not as sleek.

If it's like my Jeunet 620, the top tube cable stops are on the right side. That is the wrong side for most side pull bakes. The Wenmann 730's on mine are one of very few exceptions. MAFAC Competitions would be my first choice.

What brakes to use kind of depends on what you are shooting for. Returning it to something like its original glory? Mafac Racers or (if you want to go higher zoot) Competitions. Of course, setting up Mafacs is just this side of a hair shirt for fun. If you want something more or less period correct and aesthetically more or less like the original but don't want the hassle of setting up Mafacs (and here I would raise my hand enthusiastically), get Weinmann or Dia Compe center pulls. In all of the above, I'd replace the brake shoes with Matthausers or Kool Stops. They make a big difference in braking performance.
If you want the best braking performance and don't care of period correctness, get Tektro dual pivots of the correct length. Why Tektro and not something else, like Campy or Shimano? Because it is easier and cheaper to get decent Tektros in the brake reach length you'll need on a Jeunet 620 than it is to get Shimanos, and Campys dual pivots in that length don't exist.

wrt the suggestion of employing Campag Record brake levers -
they are a fave o' mine as well.
the reach was changed to a smaller one about 1976. so depending on one's preference they may wish "early" or "late" type.
