paved bike trail Minnesota

I have been told about a long paved trail in Minnesota. Would that be the Paul Bunyon trail or is there another one. Thanks.

It is the Paul Bunyan State Trail at 115miles Paul Bunyan State Trail: Minnesota DNR

The Paul Bunyan State Trail is 115 miles long, not including a couple of short on-road connections through the cities of Baxter and Bemidji. Extending all the the way from Crow Wing State Park to Lake Bemidji State Park, north of Bemidji, it is the longest of Minnesota's state trails and the longest continuously paved rail-trail in the country.

If we are traveling to Minnesota and want to ride road bikes on the Paul Bunyan trail, where do you suggest we stay? We want to have one home base.

If you wanted something central on the trail, maybe Walker, MN. Otherwise, Bemidiji, Mn has hotels/resorts/camping on the north end, as does Brainard/Baxter on the south end. There is also 130 miles of paved trails running from Fergus Falls to St. Joseph, The Central Lakes Trail/Lake Wobegone Trail, also rail-to-trails.

If want to stay in one location and ride from there we would like to be able to ride on roads not on the trail (so we aren't on the trail everyday). Would staying by the Paul Bunyan Trail or the William Munger Trail be a better choice for that considering locations.

Now we are considering staying in Duluth to enjoy not only the Willard Munger trail but also country roads around Duluth. If anybody is familiar with Duluth, please guide us on which part of Duluth would be most conducive to ride from our hotel to the trail and to roads around the area. Thank you.
