Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A brief review of the DTSwiss ARC1400 62mm wheels

Hi folks. I thought I'd give a review of these wheels, mostly because I was truly surprised at how good these wheels do in crosswinds. A brief wheel/bike history so you can have some perspective on my view.
Specialized Roubaix (2017) with Reynolds ARX's 42mm
Scott Foil (2022) with 50mm Syncros
Cannondale SuperSix Evo (2023 model), Reynolds ARX 29mm and DTSwiss ARC 1400 in 62mm size

I've now ridden these wheels 3 times, all shorter rides, one 40 miler, one 37 miler and one 22 miler. As the typical ******** review would say "These wheels roll fast" or "spinup quickly" or "Maintain momentum"...yeah they do all of the above, it's a wheel, it rolls when you put power to it...that's what they do.

These are light and stiff but somehow seem to help soak up bumps, they also seem just fine hammering away or just cruising along in Z2, so yes they do the normal wheel things very well.

The most impressive thing so far has been crosswind stability. They market the wheels as crosswind stable but I assumed it was mostly marketing. Yesterday my ride was in a 12-15mph wind with gusts to 20mph. So while that's by no means high winds, it's certainly not calm and these things were ridiculously stable. I was totally blown away (pun intended) with how little the blowing wind was impacting steering input. It was almost non-existent. These catch less cross wind then my 42mm reynolds and they feel to be about on par with my 29mm Reynolds, which seems downright impossible to me, but the wind literally did not bother me at all. I'm doing 75-80 on Saturday we'll see how that goes.

Happy to answer questions if someone is considering these wheels.

Glad you like them! Profile shape is hugely important in crosswinds, but you also get used to it. My first ride in the Jet6+ out at Circuit of the Americas by the Austin airport was terrifying. A couple of weeks later is was a snooze, and hardly more than that on a tri bike.
