Bike review. The Cannondale is clearly an entry level road bike but on the whole it’s perfectly fine. The handling is stable and predictable. The 8 speed Sora drivetrain shifts crisply and reliably, although a bit noisy in the bigger two cogs in back. My only minor gripe is the crap-quality brakes are nowhere near what I am used to. They clearly cheaped out on these to hit their price point.

I expect so. If I owned this I would definitely get a set of Kool stop or Swiss stop or even Shimano pads.
Since it’s a rental I will just mention it when I return it but I doubt the rental place will appreciate the suggestion.

Wednesday. Plan is to do the 6:30AM La Grange ride up Mandeville Canyon, ride back to the apartment to shower/change into street clothes, ride rental back to downtown Santa Monica, take the Big Blue Bus to the apartment, and get ready to make our exit via LAX. Flight leaves Wednesday at 3PM.

I've been very pleased with the results from putting Kool Stop pads on my older bikes with single-pivot brakes. Not that I'd take them down an alpine pass or anything, but for my rides they're fine.

Y'all talking about fall weather reminds me that we've been having typical October weather here, too. Three days in the 90s, followed by a day where it doesn't get quite so high before onshore flow takes over. Thursday, I rode outside, but Friday when I got to work with bike, clothes, etc. I realized I had forgotten to bring a water bottle. I figured 90 minutes at 90+ degrees with no water might not be a great idea, so I settled for riding ITG. I did Stage 1 of the Tour of Watopia on Zwift, the long ride (24"miles").
The garage is divided into the Pantry and the Shop, with the Shop having finished walls, floor, and ceiling and more electrical outlets than anyone has a right to. The Shop was the coolest room in the house, while the Pantry was the hottest - at least equal to ambient. So I closed the door, set up 3 fans, and rode. When I was done, I stepped out of the Shop, and the Pantry was COOLER! I must have raised the temp in the Shop by at least 5 degrees, not to mention the increase in Relative Humidity! It's a wonder there was no dewfall!
Saturday was the monthly C&V ride. We had a big crowd - 6 of us! - and the temps got into the 90s again. But I must be pretty well acclimated to the heat, because it never felt oppressive, even at 94 degrees climbing Canada Rd out of Woodside, with no breeze!

Thanks! Warmer than I'd have liked - cold on the way there but warmed up to 50* by the start and then up from there. Elevation +217 -164, profile is ugly with a starting descent and then uphill from 2.5miles to the finish. Net elevation gain due to finishing west of the start. However, running form metrics were outstanding and it's another big step closer to where I was. Today is a sore and stiff day though.

I’m here to brag about my kick-ass wife. She’s a marathoner and a perennial Boston qualifier, but has lately started getting into trails and ultras. Yesterday was the Midstate Massive Ultra and she did the 50K length. She came in second overall female!!! The winner was a professional trail runner and third place was ~30 minutes off my wife’s pace. She kept saying her training didn’t feel good but I knew she would settle into a groove and boy did she ever!
All in, 32.87mi, 3.2K of elevation in 5:26:XX. First in age group and 8th overall 50K finisher. So proud of and pumped for her.

Nice! If she's ever looking for something the American River Trail 50 (American River 50 Mile Endurance Run | NorCalUltras) in Folsom is excellent; AG did it this spring an it was great both for her and the spectators.

Could be. But could be a very simple fix. Of course with the qr closed and the adjusting screw adjusted, it might be six of one and half dozen of the other, until it comes tome to pull the wheel. As we all know, that can be a pain in a situation like this.But now we're off the subject and rambling.....

Finally finished watching the end of the men's gravel WC race. Great result for 43 year old Valverde, sprinting against Keegan Swenson. Swenson chose the wrong tires and went down twice and spent a lot of time chasing. Would have liked to see how he could have done without the falls. He destroys everybody in the U.S.
