Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What's your cross training choices?

What sports do you do besides cycling? I know I do some running but more often yoga, rock climbing and hiking.

Kayaking, hiking, and backpacking. Sprinting in a kayak is hard word, some of it cardio, but mostly for the upper body.

I run, and snowshoe

I'll downhill ski but I don't consider it to be cross training

Cyling is my cross-training. I'm a runner, former roadie, now getting back to riding. Part of my overall routine though is swimming, some pilates/yoga mainly for maintaining flexibility, and a weight/strength trainig routine, using mostly body weight.

Lifting weights. Love it and it's so different from cycling. Great ability to customize the plan for cycling-related goals too.

I do triathlons so swimming and the dreaded running are the other things I do to keep in shape.

Running and swimming.

I've got a half-marathon coming up, so running is taking priority. I have such a full training schedule that I don't have any time for weights, but I'd like to start doing some light weights once the marathon is under the belt (mostly shoulders/upper arms).

I had been doing yoga classes but I found that a scheduled workout time doesn't work with my life.

Elliptical, regular core workouts, and a smattering of leg workouts.

I need to get back at my off bike day workouts. I used to, before I got sick do Platies and a Lesli Salone video and or a run/walk. I just haven't gotten back into it again. Dang, it hard to make good habits.

Used to be running and swimming, but now I have a soccer-mad son so we're always kicking the ball around and playing 1 v. 1 in the back yard. I think it's helped my quickness and balance actually.

Sleeping.

Also, yoga, weight lifting, kayaking, surfing, and I wish I had more time for swimming, because I was always a better fish than mammal.

Cycling is my cross training for playing hockey. I am also currently training for a marathon, but I think that's a one time thing. I also downhill ski on occasion and play hurling in the summer.

Hurling looks awesome. (But isn't it really just an excuse to beat another Irishman with a stick? )

Yoga and climbing. Skiing and boarding, but I i don't consider them cross-training. I wish i did them every week during the winter. We have a winter rental in Tahoe which I have made it to exactly zero times
