That's not a good sign. Keep an eye on it, to make sure it stays tight. Riding with a loose crank arm often damages the square broach in the arm such that it won't stay tight. If that's the case, the arm will need to be replaced.

I am doing the same thing...have 2 free Craigslist bikes...a Jamis explorer and a Raleigh m50. They are my beater bikes +5. Ugly. Old. Functional. Fun.
