Upgrade or Sell: Giant OCR C3
hi folks
I'm new here, and also new to road cycling. I mountain biked a bit in the past, but never really got full-on into cycling. I am totally hooked now!! Coming up to 40 years old, and not really looking to get into the competitive racing scene any time soon, but may take on a few 30-50 mile rides.
I currently commute with my bike 2-3 times a week, which is an 18-mile one-way ride (36 miles total per day). So its a pretty solid ride, so a decent bike makes a world of difference.
My current setup:
2006 Giant OCR C3 - bicyclebluebook.com/value-guide/product/94049
10 speed (10 in back, 3 on front crank)
Full carbon frame and carbon seat post with no damage and in great shape
Xero Lite XSR 3 wheels
NEW GP 5000 tires (these are awesome!)
Shimano 105 on the rear derailleur and shifters
Shimano Ultegra Triple front derailleur
Truvativ Crank
Selle Italia Trans Am seat
So here's my question: I can get a completely new 2x11 Shimano 105 R7000 Groupset (brakes, derailleurs, shifters, bottom bracket, cassette, crank, etc. for around $450 - or same with Ultegra R8000 for about $650
Should I just upgrade it? Or sell the bike and buy a new one for around $1,000-$1,200 instead, as that would be around the total price I would have paid for the current bike + the new upgrades (105 - $1,000; Ultegra - $1,200)
All advice welcome!

Welcome to BF.
That is a very good bike you have now. I doubt you could get something like that today for anywhere near $1,200. Is there any particular reason you want to upgrade the current groupset? If it is working correctly, IMO you won't get any better performance. But with the miles you put on some parts might be worn.

Add wheels to any upgrade plan. I suspect your wheels are not 11-spd compatible.
Is is there something wrong with your current bike? Given your use, it seems fine.

If you are going to upgrade consider the wheelset also.
The new 11 speed groups will work on the OCR frame, but you might have to keep your old brakes. The OCRs uses long reach brakes the new R7000/8000 brake might be a be little short to reach the rims.
Your ten speed wheels will work with 11 speed as long as you get a 34+ teeth cassette for you build. Factory 32T and under cassettes will require an 11 speed freehub.
The OCRs are a comfy frame and able to accommodate wider tires, if it is in good shape why not do a rebuild. Like others said for 1.2K you wont be getting a bike of the same quality.

This is really great information, thanks guys.
It looks like I may have been headed in the right direction. I love the frame I have right now, and there really isn't any reason to change, other than "wanting a new bike".
What I might do is start small and tackle components that aren't performing as well as they could. Right now I think the shifters are kinda old and not working as well.
