The key is to get multiple hobbies. Then you can always blame your inability to pull the trigger on a purchase related to one hobby on the fact that you have the other hobbie(s) to support!

i keep the falcon, 'cause it was my uncle's and it's rad.

i keep the g.record, 'cause it gets the groceries.

i keep the davidson, 'cause it's totally boss, fits like a glove, and it's so fast it scares me.

i currently list for sale everything else, which right now only count three, two columbus bikes and a huge (61cm) lower mid level vitus.

i love selling bikes, 'cause it means someone's life has changed, and i can refurbish the next one.

For me it's mainly "don't buy (much) junk." I am not totally successful.

So reading some of your posts where they start "i only have 5 bikes" makes me feel okay about buying a second bike. Plus it fits a lot of the mentioned criteria, it fits (maybe), its rare, its gorgeous, its functionally different, it makes me smile, i want it.

thanks, i thought about it all last night, now i have some clarity. Bike number 2 is gonna be mine!
You're certainly following my principle about not buying junk. But there's a downside: it's harder to make myself sell the good stuff.

I tried this and it worked for a while. But then I got better at finding good stuff.

Two awesome points even if the others didn't exist at all.

How I Avoided Becoming a Bike Hoarder? ...... it's all about moving on.... late in life I only hoard those things most precious... a few bikes have made the list, mostly for sentimental reasons (given that they fit like a soft glove).... the DeRosa sure was nice, glad I get to ride it occasionally, as the new owner let's me visit.

Currently at 5 roadies + family bikes.
