Colnago Super 57cm Fake or Authentic?

Hello all!

I have always wanted a Colnago road bike, now that I am 51 I can afford to spend stupid money on the things I have always wanted. I am an avid biker and a pretty good mechanic, having rebuilt bikes many times over the years. I love that Italian steel, and Italian women- my wife is Italian

I have been watching CL and ebay for a long time, I am pretty sure that I can make a good purchase- kind of.

Today this ad appeared on CL Mpls, a 1978 Colnago Super. I have asked the seller to send a pix of the BB. I see the fork is Colnago, but the cables run on top of the BB, unlike the ebay listing below. Is the one on CL a fake?

Sadly, I'm not allowed to post links. Maybe someone can add the links.

Minneapolis CL item# 6899232642

This one on ebay has the cables running under the BB. Ebay item 223481139903

Thanks for looking! -John

Not an expert on them but it looks like a genuine Colnago from the limited photos given and seems in nice condition.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Colnago-Sup...EAAOSwTklcsg-C

Seems overpriced.

It's gorgeous and it's a forum member's bike.

I've seen it in person a couple of times and so have the guys at the shop I hang out at.

They are a Colnago dealer and they love the bike.

If I was still in "c&v" buying mode I would just buy it for myself.

edit: Oh yeah, buy with confidence.

When they're in great condition, it's your size AND the one you want; there's no such thing as too much I'd pay $1200.00 for that if it was my size. They aren't making any more.

The one on CL is original and priced at $1200. It seems a little steep but not outrageous; if I were looking for a Colnago I would give it serious consideration.

The one on eBay is refinished and they want $2500; that's the one I feel is overpriced.

Beats me what the value on this bike but it's beautiful and you're not going to find many of these in this condition on a local CL. This is likely the only one you'll ever see locally and it looks to be in tip top condition. I don't want this bike but I'd certainly think about paying the price if I did.

As you are new here, you would be well advised to act fast, the endorsements you have gotten are golden, run, don't walk, you are wasting time at this point, no need to wait on the cutout or anything else, hurry lest you miss out.

Not only is this a great deal, you would be hard pressed to find another this nice for this price, period.

It’s mine. I didn’t notice your email until now, went to my spam for whatever reason.

Selling to fund my newly acquired wood working addiction. Had it priced higher elsewhere and everyone who was interested wanted it shipped. Marked it down to attempt to sell local before packing it up.

Thanks!!

I raced a fairly similar blue Super at the time for a local shop after I gave up Elsinores.

If I remember, there was a shop on Snelling near the State Fairgrounds that had several of these Supers in stock, plus a load of other Italian brands.

Those were the days.

Still riding, just haven’t seen much come up that perks my interest to build.

It's definitely pre 1980. Looks like the twin to my Mexico. I gave just a little less than what the asking is for the CL bike. And it looks like it's in really nice shape. There may be some parts that don't quite match the timeline, but who cares? It's a nice one.

Watch out for his trickster ways.

He's very persuasive.

I'm bowing out of this thread. One bit of advice though at the op. See the bike in person and bring $$$$ along.

It will be a pleasant transaction.

It's back online... $1400

He states all "Record" parts. Nuvo Record - Lame.

Are those high flange hubs automatically Nuvo? Or could they be SR?

Old price $1200, now at $1400. Seems like the price went in the WRONG direction!
