bar ends used by anyone still?
just returned from a Mountain bike event in Minnesota. I noticed everyone with the newer bikes have no bar ends anymore. Seems no one uses them anymore, except for me, as i have an older mt bike and like bar ends
seems people use the handle bars that slightly are curved
as mine is straight
is this true, if so when did bar ends not be used anymore and why?

Have them on the hybrid, but very little ones - Serfas bar ends.
But on XC bike do not have them - on single track I'm afraid i will miss the opportunity to use shfters or brakes while using these bar ends...
besides, I lost so many end caps unnoticed and I want to keep it this way - do not notice when I touch something with my handlebars...

Bar ends on MTBs died quite a while go. I have them on 2/5 of my MTBs ATM - the bikes I'm more likely to take on longer, mellower trails.

My fs is 'up to date' with just risers, but my hardtail has got straight bars with some good ol' ti bar ends. Call me nostalgic/living in the past, whatever. I like them.

Actually, cromoly- decal is 'Tange Ultimate Ultralight'. '93 Team 925. Parkpre did a faux ti finish, clear coat over brushed or something like that. It has actually been a very durable finish. I have another of these frames waiting in the wings.

I sold this year the same concept bike - we spent 11 beautiful years together but.. it was about time .... better for both of us.

I'm not really an off-roader, unless I fall into a ditch while commuting and have to climb back out. Sometimes, Ill ride one of my bikes to a fishing spot back in the woods. That may count for something.
What I do ride is vintage Hard Rocks as commuters, though. I have several of them and I like bar ends for the varied hand positions they offer.
Plus, you simply cannot have too many gadgets. Im a rebel - what can I say?

Geometry is different these days, isn't it? Most older bikes that I see have really short top tubes. Do today's longer top tubes mitigate the need or bar ends? I'm sure fashion and the rise of riser bars with sweep come in to play too, but I wonder if geometry trends aren't also a factor?

I have bar ends on 2 of my hardtails. The one on the '90s GT Karakoram K2 is made with one tube including the bar ends by Brahma. The one on the Trek is just the ones you attach with an allen bolt.

I have them on my old full rigid Stumpy, but not on my XC bike- I ride on brushy trails a lot and don't need anything else for all those branches to grab on.

I use them on both my new Giant and my old Trek 950 Singletrack. The trails I normally ride are tree-lined, twisty trails with lots of rocks. They've saved me a lot of busted fingers. I never use them as hand grips.
