Whilst not strictly only for cycling I've got some Jlabs Air Icon earbuds. After a previous(now closed thread as it got a bit antsy) about wearing headphones I thought I'd try some for cycling and yep they're great. Having music on whilst cycling is good and helps take mind off pain going uphill.

And for the record it seems safe enough to me.

True to size. Old 4000s bubble up almost to 30mm on my Roval wheels at 85psi.

Thanks!! I got really lucky...and not so lucky. Local sale on the frameset, it was mint cosmetic condition and it was a steal=lucky. Fork was race cut, no spacers under the Alabarda=not so lucky. Its plenty rideable and wicked fun but too aggressive for longer rides and hills and I dont trust the clamp to steerer relationship. I figured out after some playing around that past user had it cut for use with a slammed standard stem.

Ordered a new chromovelato fork from Italy the week before Coronavirus shut down Italy....I'm still waiting for it....yeah. Its has been a process...lol any other I may have aborted the project.

Silca latex tubes. They're very... pink.

I thought about saving them for a carbon fiber build, but... nah, I'm gonna use 'em on my heavy-ish steel bike ('89 Centurion Ironman, mostly stock) and make no other changes. I've ridden that bike exclusively this year (after riding an older Trek 5900 OCLV most of last year), and I've had it for three years now. I know it pretty well, and know when I'm having a good day or sluggish day and can usually predict my average speed just by how it feels. And while it sometimes feels slower than my early '90s Trek 5900, which is 5 lbs lighter, in actual practice there isn't much difference between 'em in speed since we don't have any long continuous climbs where weight would make much difference.

So this should be a fair test of whether latex tubes really make much difference.

Update: I followed Silca's instructions for installing the latex tubes. No problems. Helps to have tires that don't require a bead jack to mount the bead over the rim. I'm using Continental Grand Prix Classic skinwalls.

After a couple of 30+ mile rides, including some rough chipseal, I can vouch for the claimed difference latex tubes offer over butyl. Latex tames the vibration at bit at the same inflation pressure. It feels subjectively lighter and quicker, but my rides this week have all been recovery effort -- the heat is jacking up my heart rate way too quickly so I'm keeping the effort way down. But there is less perceived effort to maintain the same speed on very familiar routes.

No opinion yet about about long term practicality. No flats yet. I still carry at least one regular butyl spare -- I like the Continental ultra lightweight Race 28 Light tubes for a minimalist saddle bag, and those tubes also seem fine in daily use.

Perfect timing for this post for me. I need a new rear tire but when I tried a 25 GP4000 a few years ago it would rub. But now with the GP5000 more true to size I may try again with a 25 in the rear and a 28 in the front. I'm thinking though that I should buy a 28 and try it in the rear too, and wait to buy the 25, except the shipping doubles.

Edit: I ordered a 25 and a 28. I'll see how they fit. I'm going to immediately try the 25 in the rear since that is the tire that needs replacing. The front is actually a new 23 from the fall and front tires don't wear as much anyway. If the 25 doesn't fit in the rear I'll put the front to the rear and try the 28 in the front. All tires are standard GP5000. The worn out rear is the last of the batch of GP4000S I bought on sale at PBK a few years ago. I recall them being under $25 so I bought a lot of them.

Second edit: they arrived and are mounted and they fit. The 25 in the rear has plenty of space unlike the GP4000 25 that I tried previously.

Needed to replace my 160/140 SRAM/AVID rotors on my gravel bike (worn and always squealed like a turkey). Had some barely used Shimano RT81 160/160 rotors so bought the 140-160 SRAM post-mount adaptor and installed it and the Shimano rotors. So far no more squeal and the Shimano rotors work very well with the Force 1 calipers.

Found a Selle San Marco Shortfit Race saddle in white. Had to order from Italy as I could not find any U.S. seller with this in stock. Everyone here has the black one. It comes in 250mm length. The color scheme lined up with my bike perfectly.

I've been playing around with a Schwinn fillet brazed frame that I bought without a fork. I recently obtained a Dimension brand 1 inch thread steal road fork for 27 wheels (could also be used with 700c) for $90 delivered. Not the lightest thing, but seems very high quality and well worth the price.
