Clydesdale/Athena Century Rides in September When/Where

Seems a lot of us are gearing up for a Century this month. Post where you're doing your ride and the date. Then come back after and tell us how you did. Metric Centuries count too.

I'm doing Remington Ride in Remington, IN (near Lafayette) on my 45th birthday, September 19. 103 miles... My younger brother is doing it with me. Between the two of us, we've lost 285 lbs since last September through better eating and bicycling.

New Hope, PA to Brooklyn this Sunday. About 95 miles. Rolled a solo 75 last Saturday with about 4,000' of climbing. 72 the Saturday before last with about 3,700' of climbing. Our club century is the 13th, but I may skip it in favor of a loaded mini-tour. I will rarely do an imperial century. It has to be a great ride. Too often it becomes miles for the sake of miles. I'd rather do a great 70 mile ride than a so-so century so I can say I did a century.

I've done two full centuries in the last couple of months and routinely do metrics on Saturdays, but nothing formal planned at this time.

I do have 150+ mile/3 day tour with some significant climbing coming up on September 19th through some of the best rides of the Texas Hill Country. I might do a separate thread for that one though.

My cycling club has a Century ride on Sept 19th. Mostly easy going though (i.e. flat, or as flat as you can get in PA) as it's aimed at people doing a century for the first time, not like the one I did last month that included 6500ft of climbing.

I'm so out of shape right now, that I'm having to get some serious training rides in preparation for this. A couple of months ago, it wouldn't have phased me.

I'd like to do a century but none around here. I am working on an 11 mile 3500 climb at the end of the month though

I usually do a century + a 75 miler in the last weekend of September as a fundraiser for the MS Society ("City to Shore"). This year, because the Pope is coming to Philadelphia that weekend, the ride is being postponed to the first weekend in October.

Guess you could call it a back to back metric century. Pedal the Plains, the 18th to 20th, in eastern Colorado (flat country). 3 days, rides are 37, 63 and 62 miles. Kinda hoping this can get me in a spot to do a week long deal, something like BRAN (Bike Ride Across Nebraska) next year.

This will be the first time in 24 years that I won't be riding in the event. For various, I am ending the streak at 23. I will be there, however, serving as "Director Sporttif" for the team I had ridden with all those years.

We live a few blocks from the Art Museum, within the "traffic box." We will be leaving town on Thursday to escape Popegeddon. Heading to a neat motel in Milford, PA in the Delaware Water Gap area. Back in '91 the guy who used to own Pedal PA did a long weekend in nearby Port Jervis, NY. There were three rides, including one to the site of the Woodstock festivals. I have the cue sheets. We plan to do all three rides. All three are longer than a metric century, with the longest being over 80 miles. Hope the weather cooperates.

Our local club has a "Century Day" on Sunday, with optional metric and half centuries. I'm doing the metric. It will be, hopefully, my first.

I m doing my first century on Sept 13th at Capital City Century ride in Springfield, IL. I have done few metric centuries this summer on my first road bike. I also did my longest ride last week of 70 miles and felt good in my legs. I hope do another century training ride this weekend.

My first century will be Sep 13, Endless Summer Watermelon Ride Endless Summer Watermelon Ride - North Florida Bicycle Club. I've been training with a group since March 1st, and (one of the things I never thought I would say) we've been riding metric centuries every weekend for the past month (August in Florida and long rides? sign me up).

No organized group rides but still shooting for my first imperial century on 26-September 2015 weather-permitting. Solo metric (actually a tad over 65 miles) tomorrow (9/5) morning

Actually looking to take a bit of a break in September! Last 6 weeks or so have been TOUGH! 7/26 - Black Bear - 100 miles 8/15 - Maple Leaf - 103 miles 8/22 - Big Bear Butt Cruise - 130 miles 8/29 - Ride Across Wisconsin - 175 miles So think i will take a more relaxed approach to September... I do have a few more races on the schedule

Charity ride today for an orphanage in Haiti
100K. Third Metric in 4 weeks. Slowest one but that's because we had a guy in our group who should have chosen one of the shorter routes and we were trying to get him across the line. We took turns pulling him from about mile 30 on. Got nailed by a rain storm too, but that felt good! Averaged 14.5 MPH, but had energy to pull 17MPH miles after he caught the SAG bus at mile 55. Rode with the guys I'm thinking about racing with next year and they kicked my a$$ on the sprints we did and I told them to go ahead and kick after the other guy caught the bus, but I was only a few hundred yards behind at the finish.

So... I did a century on Aug 30th, so I don't think it counts. It was my 4th or 5th century this year. 2 supported and organized, 2 or 3 where just weekend rides on my own. Last year I did one and only one century. My first century. Trained all summer for it. I'm still amazed that I was able to do so many centuries this summer...

But... I am planning on my first 200K near the end of September, so I'll go with that.

I don't race, I don't ride in groups, and I only get cajoled into doing an "event" ride perhaps 2 times a year. But I can in fact get up early on a Saturday and get it done. No support, no SAG stops, none of that. Solo all the way, about 30 miles of it on surface streets, because the damn SART is far from a continuous line.

I failed Saturday's club/donut ride turn into DIY century ride attempt. I got a ride home from a buddy after the fast club ride portion. Outta shape and zero endurance..the last 30 some miles, i'd gone backwards. I burned toooo many matches on the donut ride. I hate the feeling of being the slowest in the group and first off the back

Did New Hope-Brooklyn. Came out to be about 97.5 miles. Computer said 13.6 mph average but that's deceptively low for several reasons. 1. My computer is a bit off. It's .04 miles short for every mile, so it read in the 93 mile range. If you correct for that the average would come out to be about 14.2. 2. There are a couple of places where you have to walk the bike. One of those walks comes within the first mile and is nearly a half mile long (Bikes must be walked across a bridge over the Delaware River.). We also have to walk onto a ferry then off and through the terminal to a bike path. 3. There is some urban/industrial riding with lights which slows the pace. 4. The bike/ped path of the Brooklyn Bridge was more crowded than I had ever seen it in 16 years of riding this event. I plowed a hole for our group and felt like I was constantly yelling at pedestrians to move out of the bike lane. At one point I had to duck under a selfie stick a couple was holding out over the bike lane.

But it's always a great time. And it's not a flat ride like you might think. There is about 4,500' of total climbing.

Me and the GF waiting for the ferry in Hoboken with the Freedom Tower in the background:

After the ride we visited some friends of the GF. That view of Manhattan from a 45th floor penthouse in Brooklyn can be yours for only $5 million:
