Can handlebar gel pads be cut?
I'm retaping the bars on a friend's bike.
The bars have clear gel pads under the tape, and the pads could use a trim.
I do not know who manufactured them.
Is it safe to cut these pads, or will the gel ooze out?

I cannot guess what You cannot say .. Fizik made ones, I Know, can be cut.
Generally (Guessing Again) it is a soft elastomer not like a Silicone Breast Implant.

If the edges and ends are sealed, and you can squeeze on spot and have the "gel" migrate to other spots, no. But I have to think that these things are set up as elastic, not plastic. That is, like silicon gel rubber and not silicon jelly. Else, your hands would force the shock absorbing gel out from under your hands, where it is needed.
And fietsbob has come up with a great idea: silicone rubber breast handlebar pads.

I've got Fizik gel pads on my handlebars also and I cut them to fit. No problem. Most of the "gel" pads for handlebars are more like a soft silicone rubber than a true "gel".

Well, I bit the bullet, so to speak, and trimmed one end were it appeared to be as a popped blister anyway.
If I squeeze just above the cut, some oozy "stuff" will appear at the cut off, but it recedes when I release the pressure.
So, I applied some electrical tape over the end and I'll hope for the best.
Thanks to all.

Yeah - the law of unintended consequences. The concept is not as respectful of all of one's riding friends as I think proper, either.
