Oh, I don’t know. Doesn’t seem like you know enough about old bikes to be able to do that.

Given the widely divergent answers to some of my questions, I'm in good company on this site.

... you respond to answers to your questions, by trolling the people who provide them. It's a self limiting problem, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Not sure what your definition of trolling is. But I respect and honor the answers. Even the ones that conflict with the other ones.

I was just making a joke about how much crap people get for selling a bike and actually (gasp!) Making money on it. Not sure how that is trolling the people helping me.

Plus it seemed like the bike was going to require work and expense I can't afford right now.

...honestly, I completely understand. The bike would require work and expense, if you wanted it to work well.
I understand that you were joking about the small profit you might make from flipping your purchases. In portions of my life, money was tight.

I was only commenting about it because I really do see this thread stemming from completely different perspectives on old bicycles.

From where you sit, they are a glut on the market, so why not take advantage of that situation. Where you lose out is in not discovering what it means to fit a bicycle to your anatomy and needs, and in riding something that performs optimally. It just seems like if you are complaining about all the liars on CL, wasting your time, one solution might be to find one bicycle that fits you well, and spend some money making it work well for your needs. As opposed to your current buyer's market lifestyle. I have never bought a bicycle that both worked well, and fit me well (without modification), from Craigslist. And in my lifetime I've probably bought a couple of hundred of them.

But that's just me, and I have too many bicycles at this point of my life. You be you. Good luck on your deals.

Why do you think making a profit is frowned upon here?

Probably the wrong hobby for you.
