Staten Island Greenway?
I'd heard about this before, but I finally saw it today while on business in Staten Island.
My trip took me onto a road called Travis Avenue, where a well-paved bike path skirted the road, then crossed over at a couple of points. This greenway looks like it may have several offshoots.
Can anybody bring me up to speed on this? How many miles? What are some good start and end points? Is it worth a trip in from eastern Nassau County to ride with my wife, who is a very casual cyclist?

I ride this path often because it is less than 2 miles from my home. It is about 2 and a half miles long. I ride the entire length and back 4 times for about a 22 mile ride in an hour and 45 minutes. It starts on Richmond Ave across from Costco. It runs past the Staten Island Mall, all the way down to Travis Ave. Then it runs thru a few wooded areas (always a paved path). Then you cross Travis area and ride the last section to Signs Road. I enjoy the ride but I wouldn't say it's worth a trip from Long Island. If you start on the Costco side of the street, there is also a gravel bike path that takes you along side the golf course. Probably about 2 1/2 miles long with small Hills. Not a bad ride with the right bike. They call it the bike path at the Greenbelt. Hope this helps. Let me know

Thank you, Pat. That's exactly the type of answer I was looking for. I am a big fan of bikeways that lead by shopping areas, eateries, and other places people want/need to go (rather than miles and miles of grass and weeds). It's cool that this feeds into the Staten Island Mall, but I'm sorry it isn't longer. i guess I saw most of it, then. Any talk of extending it any time soon?

I guess you can continue through the streets, where there are clearly marked bike lanes, but I'm not sure how far it goes. Don't think there is any space to extend it. There is another cool path by South Beach on Staten Island. It runs about 3 1/2 miles from Cedar Grove Beach to Fort Wadsworth by the Verrazano Bridge. I usually ride it 4 times for a total of 28 miles but I've done between 30 and 35. Most of it is blacktop but a long stretch is pavers. Why pavers on a bike path I have no clue, but I now take to the bike path in the street (Father Cappodanno Blvd) only for the section that has pavers. Beautiful at sunrise, with the sun coming up over the beach. Some riders ride on top of the Boardwalk too. Lots of options there. Thought I'd mention it

Is there a way to connect the Greenway with the South Beach bikeway? I'm not too familiar with SI, so I can't envision how close the two are.

I was digging around and saw this thread and realized that I have a video of the greenway mentioned in this thread. It is called the New Springville Greenway.

Actual greenway portion starts at around 4:40 and ends at 16:15, then I ride the path in the opposite direction till about 29:12.

I'm impressed. Now if they would only fix the Bayoone Bridge so I can use the bike path again!! I guess I'm going to have to take the ferry and visit Staten Island to test out this new path!
