SPD power meters is obviously big news, but I think that SPD-SL is going to make some people in this forum even happier.

The SRM X-Power SPD power meter pedals came out last year, too, so things are looking good for PM options. What we need now is for the prices to come down; $1.2k is too much, IMO, especially if they want pedals to supplant crank power. I don’t know how many MTBers are gonna be keen to slam expensive, electronic pedals into rocks...

I agree about price, I assume it'll come down in time though.
Keo isn't great for gravel if you ever have to put a foot down. I could benefit from a slightly wider Q. Two things that make these attractive to me. I still have a pair of carbon SPD shoes from ten years ago, I wear them once or twice a year when renting an MTB.

Hmm..... Wonder how much cheaper the single-sided XC100 will be compared to the $1200 double-sided XC200. I have a new bike arriving... sometime... and bought pedals and a single-sided crank power meter. $380 for the power meter and $120 for the pedals so that's $500 compared with $1200 for a double-sided meter or maybe $750-800(?) for the single-sided.
Is that worth it? No. But it's a bike and $1200 for a power meter is about as frivolous as $1200 on a set of wheels.

I love the fact that they have extra washers for wider stance, but 1200$ USD
At that price, I'd still do what I did last year; buy a brand new bike that's factory equipped with a PM.

About time!
The mechanic at a LBS told me back in March or April 2020 that a Garmin rep told him they were coming. I guess COVID may have intervened.
But maybe too late for me, I've been looking at crank based stuff like 4iii or up until Shimano bought and killed them, Pioneer's crank based power meter. But inventory problems still continue with everything I've seriously considered for me.

Power2Max and Quarq both have reasonable crank-based power meters.

I waited a while for SPD pedals, decided they'd never come, and bought Vectors. I think that was 8? years ago. If I'd had a choice SPD would have been a no brainer. Not SL, the mountain bike ones.
REI will undoubtedly stock these and their 20% coupons can be used for power meters, I bought a set of Vectors that way. I'm going to be paying attention to these and the SRMs and contemplate.

For sale in stock
I know nothing about this store, I just happened to notice they "claim" to be selling them.

For what I have invested in power meters I could have bought another bike. I think pedal power is the future, especially with the Shimano pedal market opening up.

I would def get power pedals before power crank arms since they can easily be swapped from a bike to another, but I also suspect that high end bicycles will eventually end up equipped with stock power meters. At some point, the cost to produce will be a lot cheaper (it already is as compared to a few years ago!).

When you buy a complete bike - most people do - you need to buy pedals anyway. Good ones without a power meter cost around $150. My Vector 2 set was $800 for both sides. There are less expensive options but this is very easy, pedals work on any bike with any BB standard, and when you go on vacation you can bring your pedals with you. Overall it's a pretty compelling place to have a meter.

Though Cannondale appears to be a hold-out.

Stock power meters, usually crank arm based, start creeping into the mix well below the top of the line for some mfrs.

Nice timing got an email today about these. Single sided XC for $650ish. So without looking at Google, what's the difference between the single and double sided, and what's the point? (I'm guessing accuracy? Or does it only read accurately on the down stroke?) They advertise the ability to upgrade to double sided? What's up with that? A tempting price but probably unneeded for me for awhile... Gonna buy some nice prescription sunglasses first.

My only reluctance (apart from the expense) is that my team of shrinks tells me that knowing how weak I am to 5 significant figures will negatively impact my self-esteem.

Garmin changes the name of Vector pedals to Rally RK200 and increases the price? Hmmmm.

I'm happy to see this as an option, particularly for gravel/CX. The prices though... holy smokes.
I can get a single sided Stages crank arm for $325. Stages has dual sided Dura Ace cranksets for $1000 and Ultegra for $730.
I do not understand why pedals would cost so much more. Are people really swapping pedals between bikes all the time? That is the only advantage I can think of.
