2003 carbon Trek question
His is the only forum I post in...and feel comfortable...so I am going to ask you all.
My friend is looking at a barely ridden 2003 Trek 5200 OCLV bike. It is in like new condition. Never been crashed, or laid down.
I personally don't know anything about carbon, is there anything he should be worried about? Mostly because of age...
Thanks in advance.

I have an '03 5900 and it's an incredible ride as far as weight and stiffness. The 5200s were supposed to be really nice too. As long as the frame doesnt have any cracks in it I wouldnt have any problem getting it, personally. If it really is barely ridden you should be good to go. I'd have a shop check it though.

I am still riding my 2004 Trek 5200. One spoke, cables and thats it in thousands of miles. Great bike, comfortable ride. Have him go for it, he won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the input. He bought it. It was in amazing condition. MAYBE had 500 miles on it. Derailleurs were upgraded to Dura Ace. Shifters were Ultegra Triple. Cranks were FSA carbon triple. Seatpost was FSA carbon. Stem and bars were Ritchey Pro.
Got it home. Set it up to fit him. (Flipped the stem, raised the seatpost and adjusted the seat set back). He hopped on and rode around the block a few times....VERY HAPPY.

I know not all old carbon frames had replaceable rear derailleur hangers. That would be the only thing stopping me if it fit well.
