they both have durace the bottum one had rd 7700 i forgot what the top one is a trek 6.5 made in 2010

Maybe like 400-450 for the older one, mostly for the components. Maybe $650-750 for the newer one. Depends on location etc

Depreciation is going to happen, like paying taxes. Unless you are in a warm climate now is not the time to sell these locally and hanging on to them will not increase the value but I know what you mean. I have some bikes that I won't sell because they would go dirt cheap. I would rather keep them to ride and enjoy.

No, bikes drop a lot FASTER than cars, even if never ridden. If you want a bike that holds its value, get a nice vintage one about 30 years old.

Why not buy a used modern bike. Something 5, 10 years old I don't get your reasoning at all. 30 year old bikes have already dropped, depreciated.

wrk101 isn't the OP. He's responding with a reality, and a suggestion that reflects his personal preferences for older bicycles. I don't understand your response to him, especially given that this is a sub-forum of C&V.

I sold my 04 5900 OCLV for $550 with full dura ace, i would expect the newer Madone might be a $1000 bike. Buyers in that price range might nit pick it for being 10'speed though

I saying if you buy a good 30 year old bike, then pretty much all of its depreciation has already been taken. If you buy a 5 year old bike, you can avoid a lot of depreciation, but not all of it. If you buy new, then expect to take a big hit depreciation wise. In my experience, the depreciation on new bikes is a steeper curve than a new car.
Personally I would not buy a bike based on its upcoming depreciation. I'd make my choice based on what I like, and get the value out of it by riding it.
