I got tired of the saddle bag so now have tube/levers/etc. in drawstring bag in middle jersey pocket. It’s very liberating to pitch the saddle bag.

Next, I used a Lezyne Micro-Caddy which has a wide strap that goes under the saddle rails. This solved the chafe problem, but I eventually found it easier to pitch the saddle bag and carry the gear in the jersey. Try it sometime.

Could be. For awhile I used a cheapo saddle bag, but the velcro strap around the seatpost would chafe/wear out my bibs/shorts. May not be a problem with an awesome aero seatpost, but was an issue with mine.

Rapha has been doing cargo bibs (and NOT bibs) for a couple years. Everyone that tries them loves them. Last week, another guy and I both ended up at the same place for a post-ride beer and sandwich. He was wearing the cargo NOT bibs. He said that he also had the cargo bibs, that they were the best and that he wouldn't buy anything else now. Said that they really came in handy on long rides/races, or when you have a vest/jacket that blocks jersey pocket access, etc.
I'll prolly get a set in the spring.

I am from the sew-up days, when there was always a tire under the seat. Of course, when I started riding, jerseys had front pockets too.

+100 Last cruise I was on was a geriatric cruise, apparently . . . 90% old people but they didn’t tell me. Frikkin stick in the muds were no fun at all. For example there was an onboard Halloween party and the old bastids sat around watching as the same 5 couples danced all night. Crutches and wheelchairs everywhere and every day. A few old people, of course, that’s normal, but a whole ship full? Worst cruise ever.

You can’t tell folks that. They don’t want to hear it. Been trying for decades.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of the saddle bag, but it's not unusual for me to go 80+ miles without stopping - I need pockets for food, phone/wallet, room to stash my vest, etc. Having a saddle bag just means more room for that other stuff and less remember when I head out the door.
Plus, I have a pretty sweet saddle bag (well, roll, technically).

On longer rides, I have a little pump, phone, cleat covers, a food item, and maybe an extra tube. I need my scrote.

Being landlocked as you are you might have an unconscious aversion to the open seas.

Our trip to Hawaii was the same. The barista in the coffee shop told me that he works ships on both coasts and the Gulf but that the ships out of Los Angeles were the worst for old people. No idea if that’s true or not.
