No special trip to Leaf Country. Just close to home on the Niagara Escarpment. The best reds are further north but no complaints today.

14% grade, short. 8 Sideroad, Burlington. That really is our tandem leaning against me.

Bethel Church, Britannia Rd., Burlington

Not-abandoned cemetery, 8 SideRd.

I envy people who live in areas with these types of shops and eateries. Everything around this region is simply drab and dull run by drabby dullards.

Autumn Leaves Ride Sunday

Now that I've got my camera working well in manual mode, I was able to get out there and shoot some local Fall Colors yesterday. The bike I chose for this ride is one that I thought would complement the colorful local flora while not overshadowing it, if that makes any sense. So I hopped on my Pashley and went searching for deciduous trees.

I found some here:

... and here:

... and over there:

But not a lot of variety. Yellow/orange seems to be the dominant color this year. I was hoping to find some reds as well, but they were all too far away to photograph well.

With all of the high winds we've been seeing of late, we have a lot of dead, brown leaves all over the ground, blown down before their time by the cold, cruel bluster of old Ma Nature.

Which is all just a good excuse to include one more photo of my bike in a pile of leaves:

I hope everyone else enjoyed the weekend as much as I did.

Cheers!

^Cool pic. That takes some chutzpah to ride no-handed over all those leaves. We're expecting temps close to 90-degrees in the SF Bay Area, so still in the Indian Summer phase here.

For me, just usual "slog" today: a pleasant 8-mile roundtrip commute up the hill to a sunrise view of the Golden Gate. Livin' the dream.

Dropped off the car for a service this morning and rode the loaner "bike" to the office. The Hague is nice this time of the year.

On my route is a well-known bike shop, Van Herwerden in Voorburg:

DQ Rider I also have a fond memory of the film Leica cameras. I worked in the camera repair field and closed my last camera repair shop 30 years ago. I repaired hundreds of the old Leica's even the 1930 Gold Lizard skin up to the M bodies. My personal traveling Leica was a M1,no rangefinder, with a wide angle lense. Leica's were very easy camera to repair once the case was removed.

I think Leica are missing a marketing opportunity here. If they built a digital camera with the simple controls of the old film bricks, maybe throw in autofocus, aperture/shutter priority, and with their outstanding optics and sensors, they could price it within reach of the average enthusiast and sell a ton of them.

But maybe they don't for the same reason that Ferrari doesn't build a mainstream sports car. Exclusivity is a hallmark of the brand.

Mounting my bike after a coffee stop yesterday. A guy walks up, "You guys trying to kill yourself?". Ha, no, just staying off the couch. Where's your bike? "I did the Death ride twice", as he drags on his cigarette. Well, looks like you're going to finish the job...he walks away. Guess we are too slow, lol.

Somehow the out and back to the pharmacy was 6 miles there and 9 miles back...stopped in a park along the way.

Rode in WNC

I did a ride on my old Marin San Marino today. There was a lot of climbing and I could tell I'm not used to that old ride with it's TALL gearing! Now my left knee hurts! But the fall colors were awesome!

DQ I am going to make this short as this is a bike forum. A digital sensor is not exposed all at once but from top to bottom in hundreds of steps. High end digital camera's have mechanical shutters but all they do is open and close at Bulb no speed. They are just blocking the light from flooding the camera body. Electronic shutters set at very high speeds 1/4000 are only running at 1/200 second in real speed but at any point on the image plane the speed will be 1/4000.
Leica could do what you want but it wouldn't be a big savings. There now are some devices to be mounted on the back of SLR camera's to take digital images. They were available over 20 years ago but fell out of favor.

As has happened in the past five years, the leaves turn, then we get a severe windstorm that knocks them all down the next day.

This was my bathroom window view three days ago....that tree is bare now.

I will edit this post with some of the Halloween decorations in this/these dense housing developments.

But for now, it was just nice to have a successful check-out ride in the recabled DeRosa. Fall colors in Portland. Life is good.

forgive the ugly bottle holder, the original ones still at home.

first let me note, Fall color looks best with a bright blue background.

Then on to the Halloween adornments

without comment, only that the inflatable and moving spider in one pic was flaccidly conserving energy. And, in the last pic with traditional pumpkin entry = at night the 2 white vertical things became credible ghosts with a fan/blower and lights beneath each.

Riding in the Woodburn area.

And a 2 Italian bike day

Burnt Mountain. The apple trees have turned

Ready for a descent! Blue Ridge to the north.

Afton Mountain. Blue Ridge Parkway is on the other side of this.
Got out today expecting to see more colors, but looks like I’ll need head out to higher elevations. Not sure how to get last pic not to load sideways

Another colorful ride today

Another beautiful fall ride today by NBend, on Flickr

There was flooding in Lower Snoqualmie Valley earlier this week.

Saw some floaters near Duvall by NBend, on Flickr

The rail trail kept me high and dry until this spot just outside the town of Duvall and I had to turn back..

Had to turn around a few miles from Duvall because of flood waters by NBend, on Flickr
