Peugeot PA-10 find

Listed on craigslist looking like this...

And after an afternoon of heating and scraping tape.

If that much improvement happened in an afternoon - even a very busy afternoon - you are a Master at Rehabbing efficiency.

That's a fine looking bike and it's great finding one with most of the original gear like this one.

I love the 49d crank.

What's the difference between the PA 10 and the PR 10? Was the PA 10 hi tensile steel and the PR 10 531 main tubes?

Thats a nice compliment. Thank you. I love doing it. Just a great afternoon. Got it most of the way done. Just needs a headset adjustment. Will take it out tomorrow for a shakedown.

The PA 10 has forged ends like the PR 10 but a steel Stronglight crankset to the PR 10's 49D. The PR 10 also has 531 main tubes and the PA is fully hi-tensile in frame and forks. Both originally shipped with HF Normandy hubs and tubular tires.

Thanks that's what I thought. And I think the PA 10 is a bit older as well. Interesting, I have a PR 10 that I built up from a frame but did not realize until now that it came with a Stronglight 49d crank. Those are hard to find. I built mine up with a stronglight 99 which is more widely available.

I've had Peugeots before but this is the first classic white one. I'm calling it a PA-10. Not really sure it is. It takes a 26.4 seatpost if that is a tell. Maybe I need to do some investigating to determine what it really is.

26.4 is pretty common for French reynolds tubing so maybe a PR 10?

Oddly enough there is another thread going which discusses the differences between the PA 10 and PR 10

I think it is, actually, a PA 10. It carries the gold cadre allege shield style sticker on the seat tube, has the forged rear dropouts and the Peugeot, crowned hi-tensile fork. The decals and the Nervex lugs indicate a very late 60s or very early 1970s PA 10. The Stronglight 49D and the Weinmann 500s look to be aftermarket upgrades.

Revisiting my PR-10. Thought I had a buyer for the bike, but it didnt work out. Stripped it down to the frame and thought about selling the parts. Then yesterday I thought whatcl the heck I should give it some fresh paint. I actually found a can of gloss enamel that I had used on another Peugeot. I'm not a fan of the appliance white, that Peugeot used, so I toned down the white a bit. Used some black testors on the lugs to sharpen up the "good enough" factory lines. I'm pleased.

A PR-10 or its PKN-10 successor is a great bike. (Been there ... done that.)

A PA-10 is an interesting cross between a PR-10 and a UO-8, but it was a really cool entry level sport bike for those on a tight budget.

I considered a PA-10 in 1971.
the cottered cranks held me back
to replace those would have bumped up the price considerably- so I kept saving.
if I had known that I probably could have found alloy chainrings...
i did not like the plastic shift levers either.

The PR-10 coming together. The BB was a breeze. Super smooth feeling and adjusted easily. Cables, chain, and bar tape, and it will be good to go.

A reminder of what it looked like when I bought it.

It came with Stronglight 49 crank arms with TA rings. They were a lost cause. Either the crank arms were bent or someone tapped the pedal holes crooked. So I replaced with a Stronglight 93.
