Old water bottle

I picked this bottle up at a race sometime in the summer of 1980. Held on to it all this time. Michaels Cyclery was a bigtime racing sponsor. Jeff Bradley, Alan Kingsberry, Greg Meeker, and many many more all rode for Michaels.

Sweet looking bottle. I hear a bit of vinegar and water will take out the plastic smell and any odors inside if you plan on using it again.

I was a freshman at Iowa State in Ames in 1974. I met Michael and did a couple of the shop rides. I was new to cycling and simply awed at how fast some people there could ride. I remember seeing quite a few upper end Raleighs, Motobecanes, and Peugeots (or at least the PX-10). I learned how to pronounce Campagnolo correctly and how the faster riders loved their Italian and French components and especially their tubular tires. One ride I remember we turned down a dirt road on the way out to some farm. One of the faster and better dressed riders seemed surprised by this and started lamenting he was riding silk tires. At one point he began screaming "My silks, my silks!" I noticed most of the other guys just smirked. I really didn't know what was going on. Thanks for posting. It brought up some fond memories of ISU.

I had a very similar bottle from about 2000, from when I started riding again. I got it out for a vintage ride, scrubbed it out, filled it with cold water, gave it a squeeze, and my thumb went right thru it. Second time that's happened with old brittle bottles. Good for display, for actually using, not so much. Good luck with yours.

Very cool

This bike was supposedly Greg Meeker's training bike, built by Micheal Bornstien at Strawberry here in PDX when he worked for Andy before he went back to Michael's in Iowa.

Both Andy and Jeffery Bock from Iowa agree about the Bornstien part, the Meeker part may be plausible but came from the seller so....

Not a good pic of it but the fork tubes are very stout round ones, very strong for taking a beating.

I believe Andy Hampsten rode out of Michael's also.
