Bottom bracket type for 1990's De Rosa Merak frame?
Hi there, I've recently bought a 1990's De Rosa Merak aluminium frame. Not sure of the excact year though.
The frameset came without a bottom bracket, and I'm not sure about which one to get.
Some sources suggest that I might need one with italian threading whilst others says that they it might be BSA.
I measured the inside of the cup threading: 35mm.
What measurement would be needed to determine the bottom bracket type?

Look carefully at the direction of the threads. If the drive side is right-hand thread (i.e. "normal"), then it's Italian. If the drive side is left-hand thread (i.e., left tightens, right loosens), then its BSA.

Don't forget about BB shell width. about 68mm is likely Eng threading. About 70mm wide and Italian is more likely. But all this is so easy to confirm by trying an Itl cup. If it threads in the shell is Itl. If the cup can't thread in on either side the shell is Eng. One more reason to establish a relationship with a shop to help in these cases when some ambiguity exists. Andy

Thanks for the replies.
I'm pretty sure that it is an Italian threading now.
The width of the cup is 70 mm and when I try to put in a British BB it falls right through (as it would do on an Italian BB according to Sheldon Brown).
