Tour de Bronx anybody?

I'm doing this next week, anybody else going? It's free. I've done it many times in the past and it is usually a fun ride. It is one of those rides where I always meet up with someone along the way. 25 or 40 miles, neither is very strenuous. The thing I don't like about it is they corral you at certain points as they want to keep you together. One time the whole ride had stopped on some residential street and it just felt like everyone was stuck there.

If you've ever wanted to explore The Bronx, this is a good opportunity. Maybe they'll also go through Woodlawn Cemetery, worth the trip in itself.

I'll be riding as one of the 25 mile sweeps. It's not likely our paths will cross. If you are riding the 40, you will leave first. If you are on the 25, it's likely I'll have a lot of repairs to make and slow riders to encourage.
The thing I don't like about it is they corral you at certain points as they want to keep you together. One time the whole ride had stopped on some residential street and it just felt like everyone was stuck there.
They've eliminated that problem. It was due to not having enough police to cover every intersection. The beginning had to wait until the tail caught up and the freed up cops in the back could move ahead of the pack to cover additional intersections.

The solution is that only the beginning portion on the Grand Concourse is free of cars. You will be sharing the road, once you turn off the Concourse. The cops do cover the major intersections and give the bikes priority at these intersections. The upside is there are not any "compression" points. The downside is that there is mixing with cars. The route follows residential streets and class I bike paths to keep the cars to a minimum.

You may want to volunteer as a marshal. Good riders with good mechanical skills are few and always in short supply. Unlike the marines, more than a few good men (and women) are needed.

Yeah my riding buddy gave me the bad news on our ride last night. I was looking forward to this, as I never did this ride before. Sad that there's no rain date.

Well it did rain, and rain hard. I wonder how many people didn't get the message and showed up, but that rain should've scared 'em away anyway.

I wonder also. You can still get a t-shirt, I think, but I don't need any more.

I didn't know this was a thing! I'm going to keep my eye out for it next year.

I suggest you set up a google alert. It's usually the third Sunday in October.
