I do ok on four lanes. Just slow. The classic old man tooling along at 60 mph. In these parts, where 60 is still fast, I cruise at 50 on the four lanes and sometimes between 35 and 40 on the small, narrow roads. There is one road, not far from here, where two cars can't pass. There are turnouts sprinkled along both sides. Rural Yucatan is way different from anyplace I've ever spent time.

I'd sooner suggest you get a proper rear wheel that can hold up against your considerable bulk. The problem is my usual sources only do road rears - where do people normally get SS/fixie wheels? One with a good rim, good spokes, and a proper build should last about forever for you.

It's about addiction. From the composer, "Six short movements tell a life story in 15 minutes. Each movement is distinct in its timbre, yet all blend seamlessly to tell a haunting story."
Movements:
- Innocence
- Error of my ways
- Straight and narrow
- Fall from grace
- Sleep of the dead
- Abandonment

The price really dropped the second half of the week here: down 30 cents to $1.70s.

Stimulate that Japanese economy?
I'll hold off. I feel like there are going to be deals to be had in the near future, if I'm still in the market, that is.
This goes for the bike crap, too. I did order some Rapha bibs/jersey and Swiftwick socks yesterday, though (and they'll both arrive within the next 48 hours ); they were running decent sales on stuff that's not often discounted and I think others will be following suit.

Now I must contradict myself and buy something.
The Dawes SS stock rear wheel broke a spoke. Drive side, natch. It has done this a couple times before and it’s a crappy wheel now getting old anyway so I am considering getting a new rear wheel. Any suggestions? Should be cheap, durable, I don’t care about weight. Ideally have a flip-flop hub but I have never used the fixed side currently so not a deal breaker.
I have never ever posted or even visited the SS/FG forum. Dare I post there?

You could rebuild the wheel you have. You can get new spokes and nipples here https://www.bikehubstore.com/default.asp
Or your LBS can probably do it for less than $100.

I had a really great ride today. I knew that I didn't have much time to beat the rain so I focused on keeping my heart rate up quite a bit higher than my normal cruising rate for the whole ride. Guess what people, if you work harder on the bike you go faster! What a surprise!
I still got caught in the rain, but didn't get soaked so I was all right with it. It certainly made for some moodyviews blues though:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iVusUjyby18

Maybe. This wheel is of crap quality and had a lot of miles on it anyway so may be a sign it’s time.

There is a crusty old knucklehead cyclist I ride with sometimes. I am on his email distribution list for a Sunday ride he leads (it’s not near me and I have never gone), he just sent out email that group ride is on with “social distancing.”

This one's kind of porky, but cheap. Cheaper than a rebuild at a shop. And not much more than materials, if you do it yourself. Might even be more well built than the BD wheel.

It’s ok for what it is. Very heavy but fine for a commuter/beater/rain bike. I put full fenders on it. I put a 18t on the FG side but too ascared to use it.
