Questions I have-
- how did Cdale come up with the claimed cubic meters of waste?...is that per year or what?
- are bikes shipped with wheels attached?...that makes for big boxes which possibly makes for more shipping containers which makes for less actual waste.

Its neat to see, really. They claim less landfill waste and less damage in transit. That's a heck of a win-win if its accurate.

that tape can be recycled?

No zip ties would be nice, it's a pain to cut all the zip ties

The article says "Within the new packaging, bikes will be delivered 95% assembled, meaning less assembly time for mechanics". Reducing waste is good for everyone and less assembly time for bicycle shop mechanics is also good. However, reading between the lines I think this means easier for the manufacturer to ship directly to the consumer and cut the retailer out of the transaction.

I want Cannondale to tell us how green their Chinese production factories are.

Probably as green as everyone else's.

There are obviously areas in all manufacturing for continued improvement as it pertains to environmental impact.

Back when Cdale bikes were produced in the USA they came packaged very smartly, not 95% assembled, but very little waste in packaging. When they shifted to overseas production the packaging was no longer theirs, but the manufacturers packaging. Guess they are going back to the simple packaging the original company developed a long time ago.

I also read 95% assembled as a foreshadowing of what is to come. Direct online sales to customers cutting out the bike shop for assembly. No way to avoid it as for far too many people price is king.

The thing about recycling is it's only as good as the guy throwing it out.
Unless each individual or shop has a dedicated recycling stream, and cares, it just goes in the landfill stream.

Here at the office, we've recently had a couple "issues" with the cleaning service throwing our recycling into the regular garbage dumpster. Frustrating when we make to effort to separate the recyclable paper but it winds up in the landfill anyway while the dedicated Recycling dumpster goes pretty much empty all week long.

Rant over. I logged on to ask: I wonder if this new policy applies to all Dorel brands? GT, Mongoose, etc?

Even then it might go into a land fill once it hits a recycle center. Recycling has gotten expensive. Sorting the material has always been expensive. China used to take everything, now they are being picky. Recycling has become so common that the bulk material has lost value. Many recycle centers just landfill a portion of what they get.

I still sort everything but have no illusions about where it ends up.
