Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

saddle position is not something you JUST change...it's very specific and should be dialed in and left alone once correct.

Thanks for the question because I've been experiencing pain in the back of my left knee for the past few rides. I had been messing around with my saddle height too (although it ended up being back exactly where they set it at the LBS 5 months ago!). So I'm going to lower it a bit to see if the pain goes away.

Watch out for branches that you used to have 1/4" clearance under.

It's good to experiment, this is how we learn. You've already received good advice, watch for rocking. But make sure you pay attention after a hard effort too, things change.

Some people have one leg noticeably longer than the other. It can be enough of a difference that a given saddle height feels fine for, say, the left leg but too low for the right, but if it's raised to accommodate the right, it's uncomfortably high for the left. That's when shims, cleat placement, and other tricks will help.

I heard if you raise the saddle 1 mm every week it will make your legs longer.
