I picked up a '67 Sprite 5 speed a couple of weeks ago and considered the B72 already on it a bit of a score. However, one side is flattened. I'd hoped it wouldn't be an issue (other than cosmetic), but my test ride this morning showed that it does indeed rub. Is there anything I can do to reshape it?

Hi,

Yes, along the lower edges, middle, each side....punch some small holes and sew it from one side to the other.
I don't have the thread handy, but search for sewing or Brooks saddles and I'm sure you can find the thread with details and photos.....

Thanks, Joe! I don't have to worry about the leather cracking or breaking when I lace it up? It's dry, not cardboard dry, but it feels stiff and somewhat brittle.

Ok, then condition the leather first....where is that link.....the reconditioning of Brooks or other leather saddles has been discussed...and there are a number of conditioners discussed..you don't need the expensive Brooks Proofide....read through that thread, and pick the method and conditioner you want. Once you have the leather rehydrated properly, there shouldn't be any problem with the lacing method to pull in the skirts and get some more miles out of it.
