I have been road riding for well over 25 years and never carried any form of ID for emergency or any other purpose. I am now considering getting the Road ID bracelet. Just curious if other riders carry ID and what form.

I also ride with my driver's license with me. That seems like it should be enough.

Might want to add a health insurance card to the license to potentially save some time down the road. I didn't have mine when I crashed back in 2012 and had to be taken to a hospital far from home. Of course, the hospital sent me the full bill directly. It took me several phone calls to get their third-party billing service to bill my insurance carrier.


Also, if your state allows you to keep your expired license, carry that. No biggie if you lose it.

If I'm ever stopped for a traffic violation on my bike, I don't want my driver's license with me. I don't need it; I'm not driving.

Also, many years ago, i was told I had a penicillin allergy. That's not on my DL, and if I were hurt and uncommunicative, I wanted the EMTs and emergency room docs to know that. Then I went through a penicillin challenge, and I'm NOT allergic to the drug, and I want emergency folks to know THAT, because some of my medical records say I am..

And it would be nice, if disaster strikes, for emergency folks to know who to call. The DL doesn't do that.

I use both. While the DL will ID me, it does not contain emergency contact info. My Road ID has my name, my pastor's name and phone #, as well as my daughter's name and phone #, in that order. If I'm found in a ditch somewhere I'm hoping my pastor is notified first so that my family gets the bad news from someone who truly cares as opposed to a complete stranger on the phone....

I don't carry my DL (it's a pain to get out of my wallet and I don't like carrying my whole wallet. Road ID, $20 hidden away, and tools to fix minor repairs usually work for me.

toss wallet and phone in my seat bag or jersey pocket. can't see the point of paying $30 to accomplish the same thing for free with no additional effort since I carry that stuff anyway

I have a RoadID, and wear it 24/7 as a medical ID bracelet. It's very comfortable and durable. A strap lasts me about 5 years, and I have yet to wear out the closure. I think it's well worth the $25.

I bought one (it was cheap) and wore it 5 times or so. It was less comfortable than not wearing one, so I quit.

ETA: I don't have any allergies or medical info that would be needed in an emergency.

I should carry my wallet with some ID and my insurance card just in case, but I don't. I don't have a Road ID.

Yes I do. And the EMT used it when I was involved in an auto accident (no bike). They're cheap. I buy them for presents for family. Mine is with me 24/7.

i bought one before, and just bought the one to fit my garmin vivosmart which rarely leaves my hand.

in my case, it's so they contact a family friend first prior to my wife so if someone has to break bad news, it's someone close, plus i have some odd medical conditions that I list on it in case of emergencies (because who would expect a sub 60 year old to be in a-fib).

it's $30 for a simple peace of mind.

I just have a business card of mine in my seat bag with my wife's info written on the back.

As a Canadian, all I need to carry is my provincial health care card. That is all I need in the case that I need medical care during a ride

Since I dont own a wallet - just a DL and CC with me when I leave the house, it's easy to carry that over to when I ride. ID is a good idea imo, if you end up badly injured or worse, you want the authorities to be able to contact your spouse or family.

If and when you crash and are unconscious the Ambulance crew will check your body NOT your Bike..
Wear your info around your neck as they will cut off your jersey and see it around your neck

I wear one. It's much less likely to become separated from my body than an ID card or phone, especially one that's on my bike.

I carry my licence with me as that has my name and address. This year, my club had emergency contact cards made up for everyone. That and my licence are in my saddle bag. I don't need to worry about insurance as I live in the UK.

Just an FYI, if you carry an iphone you can put in ID, emergency contact info, and any other info that you want emergency people to know. They can access it without the phone being unlocked.

Of course if you crash and your phone is smashed, it won't do much good.

I normally have my wallet and phone with me whenever I leave the house so any necessary info would be easy to find. Seems like the metal pet tags that are available with custom engraving for under $5 would be a much cheaper alternative to Road ID.

Literally just got mine in the mail today. Took advantage of the $10 off offered for the Tour.

Seeing as though I spent 4 digits worth of bike and equipment, $25 is not a lot to spend on piece of mind.. Plus, it's a lot cheaper than replacing the contents of my wallet, not to mention some medication information I'd like to have immediately available.
