Options for a 3+ wheel bike for my wife?
My wife would like to start riding with me be she will not ride 2 wheels. She sent me a picture of a trike she is interested in but its ia fixie/single speed and I don't want her to get discouraged.
Anyone have recomendations for a trike or recumbent that won't break the bank but will allow her to successfully get started riding?

What's your budget?
I started riding recumbent trikes with a used Sun T3 CX. I ended up upgrading to a Catrike Expedition, which is significantly more comfortable and overall a much nicer trike.
TerraTrike also makes some more affordable recumbent trikes.

Budget is my concern honestly, I wouldnt mind spending $1k on a setup for her if it will make it work, I checked my local recumbent store here in town and their "budget/Entry Level" recumbent is ~$3000 with some going up to $8000!

WOW! I was looking at recumbants about 10 years ago and they weren't nearly that much. But they were too low for me to roooollll my but into. I think I had a photo on facebook of the bike I wanted, I'm sure it wasn't anywhere near $3,000. You sure she wouldn't like something like the ladies Townie? It has flat foot technology and I;m very unstable on my feet, but I just glide around the neighborhood on my Townie!

Ok, I went through my facebook posts and the recumbent trike I was looking at was a Sun. I know nothing about them, but here is a page that shows about 30 different models.

I bought my Mother In Law a new Sun 3 speed trike and she absolutely loves it. Rides 3 days a week and she is approaching 80. I think the version that I bought her now comes in a 7 speed versus the 3 speed. I picked it up for about $400 US.

FYI Industrials Bicycles is in Dearborn, MI is a legitimate business and ship worldwide. I have purchased several bikes from them (Jack's Bikes is the mainstream bike store). I have actually seen the guys building shipping crates around fully assembled trikes prepping for shipment. Interesting place.

Adult trikes can use a Hub for internal gears , but as a counter shaft with a sprocket on the hub shell
that sprocket turns a short chain which joins it with the cog turning one of the 2 rear wheels
pedal's chain turns the cog on the right end of such a hub..

more exotic with more gears the hubshell cog would be bolted on in place of the brake disc ..

Recumbent Tadpoles are a bit of a challenge to get up out of , because the seat is lower
.. they can have derailleur drive trains ... Note: there are not many US Manufacturers able to work cheaply..

the ones where you sit up pretty high can be not stable going around corners (which was fun when i had one for a delivery service as a teenager) which might not be good if your wife is uncomfortable in general with the biking ides
these have a lower center of gravity so should be less tippy
as always you get what you pay for

If you don't live in a hilly area, a single speed trike might be fine. Perhaps you and your partner have very different ideas of what a fun bike ride is. In my experience, it is best not to try to push people out of their comfort zone too fast - let her abilities and pace dictate where and how you ride. Happy wife/happy life and all that.

Personally I've always liked the Catrike trikes. I ride a regular 2 wheel bike and I've even thought about picking one up.
My mother in law has Parkinsons and she rode a Tomcat trike for a while. It was really well made and was easy to ride.
