Crank puller won't thread (new SS cranks)

My single speed bike is virtually brand new. I do want to replace the cranks. My Park crank puller will not thread into either arm. The threads won't even get started. They are not stripped, it's as if they require a different size. Is this something I've never heard about or could it be a manufacturing defect? The cranks are some no name cheap ones.

Is this a square-taper crank and bottom bracket? The vast majority of these use a 22mm x 1mm extractor thread, but there are some obsolete sizes as well (e.g. TA 23mm, Stronglight 23.35mm, Lambert 7/8" x 24tpi) but you're unlikely to encounter these on a new bike.

I hope not to insult you, but have you removed the retaining nut or bolt from spindle before trying to use the extractor? If your bottom bracket uses a bolt, make sure any washer is also removed from the arm before trying to use the tool.

If all else fails, bring the bike to the shop where you bought it and have them check to make sure the arm isn't defective of something.

I finally got it. I tried re threading the puller in again and managed to get it screwed on about one complete turn. Then I used a 1in socket and a big ratchet to get it the rest of the way. It's like the threads needed to be chased. But it's good now.
