Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

ticking sound

Hello,

I just finished degreasing the chain on my bike, as well as the derailleur jockey wheels, and the cassette. In the process of degreasing, I lost the quick connect, and installed a KMC Missinglink 10R today to replace it (the chain is 10 speed). Lubed up the chain with Muc-off dry lube, and the bike is kind of loud. It makes a ticking sound on a regular interval, which makes me suspect the Missinglink is making the noise. How do I get rid of that annoying sound?

If you did what i did just last week, you threaded the chain on the wrong side of the support bar located between the 2 derailleur jockey wheels. Quick link barely banged the bar each time it passed; only link to touch it.

Thanks, saved me a trip to the bike shop! Got the chain re-threaded and the noise is gone.

Count me in! Damn that's embarrassing. I did it the night before a century and finally had to stop and let one of the mechanics look at it. oy.
