Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fizik Aliante Sport or Ti or Carbon?

Will I notice a big diff between the Sport and the higher end models or is it simply weight?

I have the Sport (with Ti rails) on one bike and the Ti on the other. I don't notice much difference at all. Possibly the carbon shell on the Ti may prove more durable than the plastic shell on the Sport.

As for the carbon rails, I can't see the point to that...I would think Ti would give a better ride (I'm pretty happy with it).

Sport: Nylon, no Wing Flex insert in the base, manganese or titanium rails (different versions available)
Delta: Nylon, Wing Flex insert in the base, manganese or titanium rails (different versions available)
Gamma: Nylon, graphite Wing Flex insert in the base, titanium rails
Ti: Carbon(?), carbon(?) Wing Flex insert in the base, titanium rails

I have a Sport on one bike and a Gamma on the other. I love the Sport. I have done 2 centuries on it and several metrics. I really can't tell the difference between the 2. I have only had the Gamma for less than a month. I haven't racked up any serious mileage on it, yet. I don't think they make the Sport anymore, but you might be able to get one on Ebay. I got mine for $35.

The carbon-railed version is not recommended for the big boys by my n=1 experience. I broke the rails on my old Aliante.

I have an Aliante Ti, Aliante Delta and Aliante sport models. As opposed to what Voltman states, the Delta does have wing flex. I have also found no weight difference between the Mg and Ti rails. In any case, I have to agree with CardiacKid, even the Sport is a great saddle on long rides, and I don't think the higher end Aliante's are really worth the extra money. If you haven't tried an Aliante, buy one on Ebay for about $50 and try it out.

What's the difference between the Delta and Gamma? One shop thought the Delta and Sport were the same.

The Delta has what appears to be a fiberglass, or something like it, shell and it has wing flex, the Sport is a solid plastic shell without wing flex. Since I don't have a Gamma, I can't speak to that model. The weight difference is negligible.

This is an old thread, I know, but I was visually comparing the Gamma and the current "carbon' model (Ti rails w/carbon shell). I notice from underneath the Gamma has a white (I think fiberglass) woven relief section in the center, and the carbon has a yellow (Kevlar) relief section. The Kevlar relief section seems wider, and I am wondering if it would make it more cushy...perinneally speaking....
