Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

After reading all of this I am convinced that g-punk and ilikebikes or whatever the hell his name was are friends in real life.

yeah what's up? you are unpleasant and not in a fun way, and your bikes are pretty much uninspired (like your life?), so you gotta give us something.

Change the saddle, keep the bars, put on a back brake, ditch the fixed cog and get a freewheel.

Voila.

Voila.
the bike currently has a freewheel, I have a pair of really nice gran compe centerpulls that might find their way back on this bike. I also have an old flite saddle that might get a try out this weekend.

So you're set! I know there are those out there who might say a Brooks is best for that bike, and I'm probably one. I have an old Flite too, though. Love 'em.

Wow, to think as I was reading this I was getting really annoyed with a thread that's over 2 years old. That G-funk ******* was arrogant as hell. I'm really glad he isn't around anymore.

1) not sure. it's horizontal now, but i don't remember changing it. It's sorta why i came here looking for an old pic in the first place-- i don't remember moving it at all, but it's somehow positioned closer to the center of the rails now. it either slid back, or someone took it upon themselves sometime in the past two and a half years and i didn't notice...

2) not stiff as in stiffer than aluminum, stiff as in "wow... i didn't realize ti was stiff."
that's my official answer, anyway. i really don't know wtf i was talking about. i'd be surprised if the stem didn't have the slightest flex when climbing fast (esp. out of saddle), but it's barely noticeable and might even just be in my head.
for everything else, though, it's fine-- with the bonus of being light as alu and compliant on rougher roads (stick that last part up there with the other official answer).

It took me 2 whole pages before I realized this thread was 2 years old. I was ready to find that G-Funk character and punch him in the throat.
