Did EvapoRust change?
I purchased a new jug of EvapoRust from Amazon and went to use it today. Previously, it had a yellow tint when coming out of the bottle. This time it was colorless, like water. Has anybody else gotten a jug recently with no color?

I also sent an email to Evapo-Rust. They replied very quickly:
So, it's all good.
No, it's the same formula. The solution is basically clear when it is produced. It changes color with age. The clearer the solution, the fresher the batch.
So, it's all good.

Just wanna say I love EvapoRust. Also, just tried the gel for the firs time for some hard to reach spots on components I didn't want to remove and soak, works just as well.

I've read EvapoRust works via something called chelation, which you might also find somewhat interesting:
How does Evapo-Rust work?
Unlike other rust removers that use some type of acid to remove rust, Evapo-Rust works without acid. It will not attack the base metal, and it is safe to use. Evapo-Rust works through selective chelation. This is a process in which a large synthetic molecule forms a bond with metals and holds them in solution. Most chelating agents bind many different metals. The active ingredient in Evapo-Rust bonds to exclusively to iron. It will remove iron from iron oxide but is too weak to remove iron from steel where the iron is held much more strongly. Once the chelating agent has removed the iron, a sulfur bearing organic molecule pulls the iron away from the chelator and forms a ferric sulfate complex which remains water soluble. This frees the chelating agent to remove more iron from rust.

speaking of chelates/chelation, I recently tried a blackstrap molasses solution (maybe a 1:9 dissolved in warm water) and soaked some badly rusted brake parts for 2 days (AFTER a 2 or 3 day soak in white vinegar which had not given me desired results).MUCH happier with what the molasses did, MIGHT be it was helped by having vinegar soak first but I think this will now be my go-to. I also had used Evaporust on a few bolts before the white vinegar and even tho had been pleased enough with Evapo, now I'm a molasses convert! It is Said to work by chelation, maybe so....in any case YMMV

I've found that the best way to remove rust is vinegar and whiskey. First I pour some whiskey into a glass and then I drink it. Before long I can't remember what the vinegar was for.
