After not being on a bicycle in over 15 years, I got my Trek 7.4 FX in January after losing 40 pounds. Hopefully it'll help me lose the rest of the weight I have to lose. I managed to do an 18-mile fundraiser ride yesterday, so I think I'm getting the hang of it again.

My picture is not a hybrid. Well maybe, Depends on how you see it. They call it adventure/gravel, and the BB is way too low for my taste. I need some opinions on some choices with this Trek Crossrip.
I actually love the 48/36 chainrings!!!! However, as a run here, run there, short trip, haul stuff, etc... bike I despise the drop bars. I also greatly miss having my old 2005 giant cypress SX flat bar 3x9 105 trigger shifter bike. I'd have been better off converting it to rigid. Hindsight is awesome, but a day late and a dollar short
If I sell this Trek Crossrip, I take a pretty big hit/loss. If I convert it to flat bar, I am throwing money into a frame that is nice. I am not happy with because it isn't what I need or want. As for the wheels... They might be better than some entry level wheels. However they are still entry level wheels. As in they flex badly too much so for my liking. (I am only 180lbs, but I ride hard)
At the moment I am looking at the Fuji absolute 1.3 disc to replace the Trek Crossrip. I have no idea how wide of tire I can go on the Fuji Absolute disc. Clements just released their tubeless version of the MSO which is 36c. However I am probably open to running a different tire also. That 28c GP 4000s II is the bomb! Fast! Not very cush though, not like the MSO's. My winter tire choice remains the same, the Continental Top Contact Winter II 700c Tire 37c (measures 34) & 42c (measures 38-39).
I might also be able to keep my Mavic's with a little swapping from local Fuji dealer. As in we order a Fuji, I swap the wheels and sell the stock Fuji wheels on Trek Crossrip and then put the Mavic on the Fuji.
What do you guys think? Convert the Crossrip to flat bar, or just start over with a flat bar bike?
With Clements MSO 700x40's (60tpi)
With GP 4000s II 28c (measure 31)

Nice color on that Crossrip! Curious though, why don't you like these kind of handlebars? I ask because I've been throwing around the idea of getting a gravel bike to replace my hybrid thinking I might fit better. Especially for my longer rides of 50 miles or beyond.

Long answer; This is the third drop bar bike for me. For 50+ miles I'll ride my Cannondale Synapse. For fast fun spirited rides I'll take my Synapse or singlespeed drop bar Dawes. I am finding that 4 miles to parents, or 4 miles to town I'd rather ride my 29er vs the Crossrip. Even for say 10 mile rides. Knobby tires on pavement sucks.
In the beginning when I first got back into cycling as an adult I bought a Giant cypress CX with a shock fork. Pretty soon it wasn't good enough for my desire to go 40+ miles. I kept it and added a road bike. Eventually I added a third bike, a mountain bike. I then sold my Giant cypress SX, and put the 40c Clement MSO tires on my MTB. Since then, I got serious with MTB'ing so the MTB is dedicated to that, and I really miss having a flat bar to just jump on and tool around on.
I bought the Crossrip because I was planning a long trip with multiple days being on Gravel roads. Now, It just doesn't suit my purpose. An actual hybrid, or a 29er with slicks, and a rigid fork would suit my needs better. Or converting this Crossrip to flat bar would be option. It isn't so much that I don't like drop bars, I just don't like them for the purpose that I use this Crossrip for.
Options are selling it and buying hybrid, Or converting this Crossrip. The Con towards converting it is the BB height. For what I want in a Flat bar, I'd prefer a little higher BB. The lower BB isn't a negative though, as it makes the Crossrip a very stable bike. Stable for me is mute point.
Funny you mention color, When I look at the Fuji absolute 1.3 Disc, I'd rather have the dumbed down 2015, rather than the 2016 version, because of color.
If I was told I could only keep 1 bike, it would be a choice between my 29er and this Crossrip. However, with having multiple bikes. This Crossrip needs to change or go away. The best thing about it though is being able to fit 38c tires and fenders!!!!
A 2015 Fuji absolute 1.3D If I could keep my Mavic wheelset and tires, I'd do an even swap.

Short answer; I have multiple bikes (4). If I only had 1 bike the Crossrip would be awesome! (As is)

Can't see why you'd be bothered with conversion or anything else, given the criteria you set.

Thank you Badger, The Giant Toughroad is second in line after the Fuji Absolute! Toughroad has the advantage of running 28c- 50c. Tire of choice is Clements MSO which come in 32c and now 36c tubeless.
I need to ride a Toughroad, no one has any local. I have ridden the Absolute 1.3D
I do love my Giant 29er Talon frame though, and I miss my 2005 Giant Cypress SX, maybe I should just do the Toughroad. I am leery of the Toughroad though, as I did not like the Anyroad, nor the Revolt.

My 2016 Cannondale Quick CX1. LOVE this bike!
Upgrades (so far...):
- hand built wheelset (Rhyno Lites with Hope Pro 4 hubs + Sapim spokes)
- Ultegra 12-23 cassette
- Paul Component internal cam QR skewers
- XT shifters
- XT rear derailleur
- Ice tech rotors
- Ergon GP grips w/Leichtbau Carbon bar-ends
- Easton carbon riser bar
- Easton carbon seat post
- couple of carbon bottle cages
- Myth comp saddle
- Shimano Saint platform pedals
i have 2 more upgrade projects going this month as well (should be the last 2 things...hopefully ;-) ) - I have a Shimano XTR Trail crankset (and BB) I'm putting on and a set of Shimano XT M8000 brakes. But so far this bike rides and performs like a dream. Shifting is almost telekinetic :-)

Obviously I have substantially more in this bike now than the original purchase price but everything I've done has improved the ride quality, performance and durability of the bike in a big way. I have the medium sized frame. The bike's weight now is just a little over ~25lbs. Once I get the new crankset, front mech and brakes installed I expect it to be just north of 24lbs. Not super-light, but respectable for what it is. Truth be told, I could have pretty easily got the weight down another 2+ lbs if I'd focused on weight for the new wheelset (as opposed to 'bomb-proofedness') and if I'd gone with a lighter set of pedals - but ruggedness and durability are more important to me (given relative equal performance) - in those 2 areas.

Part of that weight is the head shock, So I was just curious. That is a very low weight compared to other shock hybrid bikes. Triple versus double adds weight, shock adds weight, MTB vs road components adds weight

I've put a lot of thought into the changes I've made - working to balance weight and strength. I think I've done a reasonably decent job of going with lighter components where possible to offset some of the (marginally) heavier, more rugged components (e.g XTR Trail crankset as opposed to Dura Ace, etc). It's landed me a little heavier than perhaps I could be - but still on the lower end of the scale for a hybrid of this 'breed'. Performance 'off road' (obviously light off-road) is all I could hope for with this bike, yet it's still pretty fast and comfortable (and surprisingly nimble) on long, paved trail & road rides (relatively of course - I can usually only do 35-40 mile 'long rides' ;-) ). Having that versatility to throw on 30c 'slicks' and lock the Headshok for a day on the road or throw on my 42c nobbys and head out into the woods is what's it all about!

I'm new to the bike culture, Haven't owned a bike since I was in HS. Not sure if this is a Hybrid or not. This was a bike my dad had for 20 years and he gave it to me. It is either 93 or 94 Haro Vector V1e. It's in pretty decent shape for its age. mostly just some dirt and grime and a few scratches on the frame. But it rides good! Have already gotten a tune up from my local bike shop, and I plan on making some more upgrades as well (new tires, replacing the handle bar etc...) I may even get it repainted. not sure yet. But I have enjoyed getting back out riding

I have one of these (same color) that I bought second hand for nieces to ride when they come over.
Mine came with a new set of mountain bike tires that I was told replaced the similar
originals. Mountain bike ??? It runs perfect and looks like new.
