Where does one go?

One has the following gear: an old F150 with twin tanks, four wheel drive, a good radio, and a canoe.

One tank to get you there, stay until you are out of food and money, one tank to get you back.

Hit the road and see where it takes you.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Take a fly rod and your iphone, and hit some streams.

and don't forget to drop the iphone into the creek. You're there to get away from things and relax.

Nice up in the SC, GA, NC Tri State Area.

My bucket has a ride down from Highlands to Walhalla, SC.

Maybe yours has a ride from Clemson or Walhalla up to Highlands, NC.

Either way I be impressed.

EDIT: Oh. No bike?

Still a great area for a canoe ride.

Sure to meet new friends.

My road bike is fine, but my hard tail has frozen calipers at the moment. I think it would also need more than its single speed for this outing.

According to that Google Earth photo it's so hot down there everything is burnt a brown color in a perfect circle. Not far from the truth this time of year eh.

2 30 gal.gas tanks under the truck plus a 20 gal jerry can(Ford trucks are nasty on gas)may get you up to Lake Erie for decent fishing,boating,drinking...................

It was 93º the other day.

Celsius and Fahrenheit are the same at -40º. In the South, by July, they meet again when they are both over one hundred.

I would try to make it up into the Black Hills. If you gain some elevation it is nice and cool this time of year. Fishing is good. Try Deerfield Lake. Make sure you have a good spare or some tire plugs and a 12 volt compressor. Seems like I always get flats on those roads.

Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Be sure to take a pistol to shoot the speed limit signs, just like everyone else apparently. I must guiltily admit I shot the signs in my misspent youth.

Much of Michigan's Sylvania Wilderness Area in the U.P. is just as rustic...a mini BWCA. And would be several hours closer. I've taken canoe and kayak there a few times. Bring DEET or permethrin-coated clothing though. No light pollution = too beautiful for words
