Wide 24" (520) tires

The family is getting ready to ride the Erie Canal this summer and two of the kids are on 24" bikes, one currently has maxxis 24x1 3/8 cross tires on it but these were a little on the narrow side when riding the Confederation trail at PEI last year. Although all of the Erie Trail I've lived near has been more packed and had less loose gravel a wider tire would be more comfortable long term.
One of the bikes can go to a 24x 1 3/8 and the bike originally came with that wheel size with a wider cross tire that I might use but is still a little tall for the kid to comfortably ride. The other can't use any other size. What are recumbents running for the rail trails in this wheel size, or do you just skip this size?

This question came up a few years ago on Bentrider https://www.bentrideronline.com/mess...d.php?t=116533 Most recumbents that use the 520 wheel use even narrower tires than the one you currently have. There are wider choices for the ISO diameter 507. That's the wheel that uses 1.5 to 2.125 width tires.

There are basically three versions of 24" wheel:
ISO 507 - used on kids' bikes and mountain bikes. This has the wider tires available.
ISO 520 - 'road' version of 24" generally limited to 1 1/8"
ISO 540 - wheel chairs. Narrow only - good luck finding anything other than 1".

All are rare in recumbents. Your fractional sizing implies either 520 or 540. Read your sidewall to be sure. If it's 520, the fattest tires I know of that are available are the Terry Tellus 24x1 1/4 or the Vee Rubber 24x1 3/8 Micro Knobby. With the 507 size, the big trouble might be finding a tire as narrow as 1 3/8".

I've got sizing down, unfortunately neither bike will easily fit a 507 sized wheel.
Appreciate the two options, my son runs the Vee tire in a 20 1 3/8 and it isn't as wide as they claim. Supposedly its a 35mm tire but kinda like the Maxxis cross tire we've got the tires don't measure out much wider then a 28mm.
