Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You couldn't cut it at W St Lawrence at Mile ~40 and head straight east? That looks like it would cut off about 33 miles if you decided that you weren't feeling it, and would still leave you with a metric.

We have a 300k that has 10K elevation gain, and one of the roads is called Roller Coaster Road. Pure rollers, and it's hard.

I'd have problems with a 300k with half that elevation.

I was thinking about going for my first 200k yesterday, but it wasn't the time. Some time this year, though.

And I still want to see if I can convince the wife drive the kids and meet me in Duluth, which would be close to 300k. No telling if I'd be in the mood to pad the ride at the end to crawl over that 300k line, though.

In other news, hurt/tweaked my back yesterday, getting out of the couch of all things. I knew “couch” is bad for but sheesh, didn’t expect the effects to be this quick.

im hoping it’s just muscle spasms and would go away with a day or two of rest.

That could work. Only issue using that as a bailout is having the foresight to know that continuing on to Brodhead would be a bad idea

State BMI figures indicate that is quite sedentary.

Man, you must be young if your body isn't giving you nudges one way or the other after 40 miles.

It's not a question of whether the nudges are there, it's a question of whether I heed them or not

Ha. I remember being in my mid-30's and finally having a light go on - "ohhhh! THAT'S what dehydration feels like? Well, hell, I guess I've been dehydrated half my life - I thought that **** was normal."

Pennsylvania has plenty enough deer to go around where they wouldn't miss them two at all.

Like when I did an Oly tri in Texas in July with just a bottle of Gatorade in transition and the cages removed from my bike?

So I spent my lunch break on the phone doing "peer to peer" for my patient's MRI. The first "peer" was a nurse who had to get all the history, etc. from me, then I was put on hold and spoke with presumably a real doctor, who reviewed everything with me. I did my best to lobby for the MRI (severe pain, abnormal Xray, no relief with 10 days of medical care) but of course they denied the MRI.

I expect my patient will write up a bad review for me on Yelp.

Long ago, when online reviewed FIRST started to become a thing, I made a vow to NEVER EVER NEVER look at my online reviews. I don't need my ego brushed up by positives, and I don't want to feel bad about negatives. This is a vow that I have kept. I advise any younger physicians to follow my lead.
