Help-Upgrade Justification
I have an '04 Specialized Allez Sport and would like to upgrade the wheels. I found a pair of wheels at a good price, but have to present a good a case for this upgrade to my wife. ('What's wrong with the ones that are on it already?')
anyone else run into the same issue?
thanks for any tips!

If you have a job and can pay your bills you can tell her that you just want to upgrade the wheels.

I run into this a lot myself with my girlfriend. She understands I really enjoy cycling and she has seen the benefits to my health, but the pocket book still frowns on things I don't "need".
If you can resell the wheels on ebay or elsewhere, you can defray some of the cost. Pitch it like this: "The wheels I want cost $400 but I can sell my wheels for $150 (or whatever they're worth), so they'll only cost $250. And I get 10% off if I use this coupon!" (my girlfriend really loves "saving" money with coupons, so this helps me).
Or just save up from whatever money you normally would spend on smaller things and buy them with that. It's not really costing you anything if you would have spent the money anyway.
Oh yeah, I've found the performance benefits of the wheels are usually not very highly regarded in these situations.
Good luck. I too want new wheels, but with our budget, it's not gonna happen any time soon.

"What's wrong with these wheels? The same thing that's wrong with all those skirts you've worn once."
Then give her some money to go buy more crap for herself. Everybody's happy.

Buy the wheels and deal with the fallout later. What's the worst she'll do? Yell at you? That's why you have the bike... ride off into the silence.
Worst case... she'll leave you. Then you'll have more time for riding!!!
