Talk to me Brother!? What's the recovery like? The Doc said and I quote, "The recovery time is anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks for the incision to be completely healed and the first week or two is quite uncomfortable... ".

In my experiences (other procedures and having a wife who is a RN) when *any* healthcare professional uses the word "uncomfortable" let alone "quite uncomfortable" that is generally code for, Sheer Agony.

Best part is, after living through that particular hell he said to me, "After that drains completely and the swelling goes down we should schedule you for surgery... you have a fistula and unfortunately it will just keep coming back until we surgically open it up and let it heal from the inside out".

Oh, joyous, joyous holidays!
Dude, I definitely feel your pain. Had one of those a few years back and I cannot remember feeling pain like that when the scalpel cut in for that first cut. When I screamed, people in the emergency room came running to our little corner and there I was with butt in the air. A nurse who knew me told me I was being a wuss. I looked at her and told her to, well, let's just say I was not in a mindset to be jovial.

A word of advice, follow the directions of the doctor to the letter. I had to have my wife change the dressing and drain cloth twice a day for over a week. Not pleasant for either of us, but the cyst went away. And while this is not a great topic on a public forum, this problem is likely to hit cyclists in particular. So folks, pay attention. You could be next. And believe me when I say, you do not want to be next.

New winter gloves and booties for the rain.

And the present I'm giving myself is upgrading my shifters and deraillers to DA.

Oregon topographical map book, 1:150,000.

Believe it or not, it's one of my favorite gifts in quite a few years. I don't know what it is about topo maps, but I can just sit and stare at them for a long time, especially when I find a feature I recognize from having seen.
