Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do you tell your wife/husband the truth?

As in...exactly how much you spend on your bike stuff? I have to admit...my wife is fairly clueless as to the grand total of everything....and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Glad we have an understanding...My wife gets what she wants..same here. we are affluent enough, I hope.. Must admit..Gina has no idea of the grand total...
But we eat out too much.. my riding helps balance that overeating, I hope.

Well, I am a firm believer in 2 things.

1. Always tell the truth
2. Decide before you start talking if you are going to tell the whole truth.

I would never hide how much I spend on my bikes from my wife. My bike is my method of transport and so if I need something to stay on the road we buy it.

I don't tell my wife, she handles the book keeping, so she finds out anyway. I always tell her first, and then usually she's pretty understanding, so we see if it fits in the budget.

Well, I'm not married. At the moment I'm entirely single.

All the girls I talk to think it's insane, though.
(Well.. everyone thinks it's insane..)

Mine just wouldn't understand... I mean if she asked me how much something is, I'm not gonna lie....but as far as she is concerned theres nothing different from my record equipped steel bike, and my 105 trek, other than paint...

My gf only complains if I buy something that I never use. As long as I'm using it it's cool.

She knows all. And I know how much her shoes cost.

She actually upped my budget when she saw how much I liked the Litespeed.

I'm in that same boat...but it was pretty cool last night, I was figuring out some prices for some new shoes, (to replace a pair that didn't fit well) and she suggests I get the more expensive of the two to avoid running into the same problem w/ the lower priced ones (like I had initially purchased)

Well, I'm still alive.....so you figure it out.

Seriously, I tell her - I just disclose it on a "per mile" basis and things look much better. 15,000 miles on a $3,000 bike sounds like peanuts!

My gf thinks I'm insane for buying one...[in perspective, we're both poor students, but I've decided to spend my summer money on one item]
I can imagine what she'll think if I buy another one...

My wife writes all the checks, so there's no way to hide anything. Even better, there's no need to hide anything. Cycling is my only vice... and she's happy with that. Also, she likes the idea of searching thrift shops for vintage bikes because I always come home with something interesting for cheap... like the silver bowl I found today for 99 cents.

My girlfriend used to give me grief when she discovered that i have put well over 8K in my Trek...15.10 lbs though!!! She was this way until this afternoon, when i suprised her with a nice pearl ring surrouned by diamonds. Not a bribe (i'm sure this will come up) more of a thank you and love you. She's starting to come around though...

Wife for me equals parents...

I do not tell my parents everything. All they see it the 6k in low interest credit cards and they get an idea... they still think my TT bike is costing 2k

I have four bikes at present though one does have to go. I have a C/dale MTB, a steel trainer/commuter and my race bike. Because my bikes are my main transport and rec. activity she's cool with whatever I spend. It's a lot less than me running my own car.
She often arrives home with a new ride shirt, or bibs, I think she bought my new shoes so yes, she know exactly how much we spend.

my parents would flip if they knew.
so i tell them its only $400.

my girl on the other hand would buy a new one every time i buy one.
it's amazing to have a chick who loves the same thing.
