Skiing and more skiing today. The morning was almost 20k of nordic skiing and I was pretty knackered by the end of that. Then I drove to the other ski resort and ripped a few downhill runs for the first time this season. I'm tired.

Hopefully do it all over tomorrow.

Another day of xc skiing. Tired body but my form is getting better. There seems to be this swing, though. As my V1 form improves, I feel my v2 form gets worse. Luckily for me, where i ski, there is no flat areas to do v2 lol

Just volume for the sake of volume. Trying to get the legs back and my weight back down. Tried to go 100k yesterday, peetered out with about 25k to go. Still progress.

Nice, I'll be doing the same "interval" workout tomorrow, but not mid-day unfortunately so it will be early and cold (for San Diego). My boss is letting me come in at 11 so it won't be dark at least.

My tuesday got really busy so i did the workout for tomorrow today. 2x20 at sweet spot with a 1 min gap half way through. It felt easy. Hr was low and I bumped the percent up at the end and it was still not up where I'd think. Going to increase training zones and hope this holds.

My Xmas break got turned on it's head so I'll be off the bike for about 2 weeks due to some family commitments. Hoping my knee is good enough to run and I can find some gyms to workout at while I'm away from Utah.

Been working on my head and surprise: it’s useful. Not only did I do all my workouts last week but I hit all my targets. Had to work around a couple of days of rain (yay for LA), which meant getting on the trainer, which is actually something I like. Have decided to stick to the trainer a little more, since getting run off the road by a tractor trailer a few weeks ago.

Last week was a couple of workouts on the TT bike, a couple on the road bike and a casual mtb ride with friends. Rest yesterday. Today was 4 x 4@114%, then 15 min of Big Gear work on the trainer. Compression legs for recovery, because I had a little extra time.

Been stretching a fair bit, meditating some, and generally filling my head with better things than screeching talking heads from the various news outlets. I want to be informed but enough already!

Oh yeah. And Strava tells me that on tomorrow’s workout, the odometer on the TT bike will flip over the 8000 mile mark.

There shall be cake & champagne at the Heathpack pain cave.

Santa's bringing me a new trainer and I managed to get Apple TV working in the garage, so I may be spending a bit more time on the Zwift this winter. I'd always been in the "I hate trainers" camp, but it makes sense that it is more efficient for focused training.

14 weeks off and now back on the horse. Checked CTL before the ride Monday and it didn't even calculate anymore. Woops.

Did 5 mins and 15 secs of a Zwift C ride Monday night, averaging about 240 watts and a 176 average hr before I totally blew up and got dropped and hopped off the trainer in disgust. Managed 20 minutes last night while trying to get Zwift to actually load. About 170 watts. Not sure these are even baby steps. Still in the crawling stage, but at least moving.

It's funny. When I was racing, I used to dread the trainer, but now I kind of enjoy simply riding it while watching bad movies on the tube. I think it had something to do with the mental aspect of having to complete a specific workout versus JRA.

Mile 8000 on the TT bike this morning, in the context of a couple of 15 min threshold intervals on the trainer. The TT bike is now my second most-ridden bike by a good margin.

Wow, I guess I've been doing too much mountain biking. I could not get my first TT interval cadence over 90. Determined in the second one to meet my power target and keep the cadence at >90, got it done. Time to rebuild a little more range in my workaday cadence I think.

I'm the other way around. If I have a specific workout, I can focus on it. I liked to put old race videos from youtube on the iPad, then I started doing the GCN workout videos. Now I'll do some of the canned workouts on Zwift and have started inputting my own.

Yes. Intervals on the trainer are much easier. It gives me something to accomplish while there. If I am just riding on the trainer or doing base miles, I end up just sitting on there while my legs move. The effort ends up way too low, unless I have something really engaging on the TV.

Me three. I find trainer interval workouts very engaging, the workout is over before I know it.

I'm actually ok with JRA on the trainer too, but not indefinitely. I hear people talk about 4 hours on the trainer and I honestly don't think I could personally do much more than 2 hours of just riding.

Yall need erg mode. All the fun of watching bad tv without having to focus if the intensity level is low enough (for me, about threshold and over and tv just becomes a blur)

Tonight was a zwift race which bbn holds my attention very well. Race was too easy, so it came to a sprint and I tried help an irl teammate but it didnt go well.

I put it in training instead of racing as I was not in contention whatsoever.

Did UGG gravel race in Umstead yesterday. Very sloppy wet surface. I’m a timid gravel rider but set some nice PRs on some stuff despite conditions.

Nailed my feeding and drinking and pace. I let the jackrabbits go do their thing early and settled in.

Pretty much hard as I could manage for close to 3 hours.

23rd of 70 overall. I’ll take it! Slow but learning.

210w NP for 3 hours. No stopping.

I've been having an issue with bad sleep, good sleep, bad sleep, etc. The bad nights always fall on my training days, and while I crushed them, I feel like I probably could have done better well rested.

I recommend my plan of bad sleep every night. That way you know what you're in for.

hit my goal of getting close to last year's race weight before christmas. hoping to race a couple three pounds lighter next year. figure if I can line up for some of those climbs in the mid to upper 120s it couldn't hurt my chances.

I was officially diagnosed with insomnia last year - had to see a neurologist and everything. I've been working with a Sleep Therapist for the past 7 months or so. It's been a challenge trying to improve the quality and duration of my sleep.

(We are doing therapy to avoid medication, which, as my neurologist said, will work for awhile, then the body will adjust and I'll need more or new medication.)

This morning I took a 1/2 day off at work so I could ride my "roadie" for 90 miles. Gonna slave at my desk for another couple hrs then get ready to ride back home, will clock out at a bit over 100 for the day. Tomorrow I'm planning on kicking down ~55 mi on my fixie road bike before work. No PTO usage = dawn patrol thought, unfortunately.

Orthopedist says i'm probably gonna need surgery to remove the torn parts of my meniscus buuuuuuut I was also told I can ride as much and as hard as I want/am able and can ignore whatever pain there is without worrying about making the injury worse. I'll know more in a couple of weeks, in the meantime I'm upping volume and spending a lot of time doing tempo.

Mannnn that sucks. We've gone opposite directions on knee injuries in the last 3 months.

My PT has been extremely pleased with my progress. Moving me on from strengthening and mobility to more functional stuff. I surprised myself three times today. I was able to do jump squats in the gym this morning. I got up to doing it with 175lbs. And my PT had me balance on an upside down bosu ball and play catch, standing only on my bad knee. I did all of these things and well, in my opinion. Extremely happy.
