Fresh out of the weeds
Derailleur and chain a rusty tangled mess. Not sure if derailleur salvageable or not yet.
was cleaning out someone’s backyard and they said whatever I find I can keep. Well this was basically the only thing worth keeping. Schwinn Sidewinder, not sure what year. I know it’s a dept store bike but I happen to need a mtb at the moment. Paint looks decent. Tires are trashed. All cables are trashed, chain a tangled mess. But it fits my 2 requirements, Hardtail and cheap (free) . Will update as I progress. Any info on these things? Looks to have a sa suntour fork and Shimano turney derailleur.

Ready for new tires and tubes tomorrow.
Co worker rides a bike to work and someone stole his new bike (2 days old) so decide to repurpose the 2 bikes sitting in my back yard. Old girls bmx and this bike. I had sold the bars from the schwinn a week ago so used the girls bmx bars and front brake since originals locked up. Going to put new tires tomorrow. Got the chain soaking in oil overnight. I dig the look, looks like big bmx.

Just sat on it to feel riding position and whoa!! Very upright and awesomely comfortable. I may be onto something here lmao making me want to do this to a vintage mtb I want to get somewhere down the line.

New owner of the bike definitely likes how the old Schwinn rides. He said rode better than his new bike that got stolen which was a full sprung mtn bike. Success!

Much improved over the before. Kudos for giving the bike a second life and a pardon from the scrap heap.
