Carbo Loading XLIII

let there be light

well all the parts finally arrived, I can do a shake down ride tomorrow after work, 2nd battery cell test on Friday. Charge up and race Saturday.

Action LED Lights was FAST, his charger, extension cord and velcro straps arrived on monday

Hunk_Lee Ebay battery from Jersey arrived Tuesday, charged on up today at work for tomorrow's ride

C&B Seen shipped out FAST, shipped from UK on Monday and arrived here Weds morning. It was stuck in customs for 3 days, got sent to San Diego Saturday, Got sent back to LA on Sunday, Back to diego on Monday, and FINALLY delivered today. Light head is smaller than I expected, figured it would be close to the 3up XML i got like 5 yrs ago.

I figured out the magic trick code on the remote to unlock the 10 step feature on the remote. I wonder how long that coin battery in there will last.
so each of these 6800amh battery with the light head drawing 1500amh at max power yields 4.5 hr run times before I have to swap packs.

lo mode glare

Cost
C&B Seen 3up light w/ shipping and VAT was $65
2 hunk_lee ebay battery made with panasonic cells $60 shipped
Action LED Light.com for the magic shine battery charger, extension cable, and 4 sets of velcro straps was $33 shipped
___
$158 for 1900 lumens of power and 9 hours of run time

previous setup, Night Rider Lumina 1100 boost, get 900lumens at 1h20min before it fads to protection mode. $105

@jsigone started this III thread for November. I didn't realize it and started IV as well. LETS USE THIS THREAD for November, then switch to IV for December, then all will be right with the world.

Hey, @jsigone hasn't ever started one of these that I can recall, and the time stamp is 10/31 @ 10:54 pm, so I just figured he was responding to the October thread, not starting a November thread in October!

But I'll cut you some slack, it's a tough week for the Fight On crowd, can you say ASU?

Urge, Bagby and Barrel Republic are 3 places we need to hit next time we're in Oceanside... not sure about the bike situation at Barrel Republic but bagby was very bike friendly last time I was there.

How's Wednesday for you?

I'm sure Russell will tag along. We would probably start in West Corona.

Pathetic I signed up for 24 solo and only rode 8. Race started 10am. Headache started about 5pm after the heat of high of 96 on course, and nausea set in just after sunset. That was a hard lap in the dark, took almost 50% longer to complete, I couldn't drink, wanted to yak on the long climb or any small climb requiring power. Came in about 8:20pm and the BBQ vendor was packing up, he had enough meat to make me a tri tip sandwhich. Best $8 ever!! Saved me to unpacking my cooking kit at camp and making dinner. I was in the sleeping bag before 9 to try to sleep off this mess. Woke up at 4:40am and rode around the pit/camping area to see how the body was doing, before I get tested on the DAM hill climb out the gate. No good, headache was still there, legs were fine as all can be, I crawled back into the sleeping bag and waiting til sunrise. It was 40 some thing degrees at this point.

Oh well, some lessons for next yrs 24hr like don't train 3 weeks before the event . The next 12hr race is end of January

Congrats on giving it a go. Over 9400' is an impressive ride all by itself. And it was pretty hot this weekend.

Just make sure he rides a fixie - you can catch him every time the road tilts down.

Good luck with your sicilian neck tie procedure.

Surgery done. They opened the old scar they used to reassemble my thyroid cartilage last year, while I was sedated. Minimal impact; just the gore-tex implant, no rebuilding the cartilage, which should make an easier recovery. 2 weeks no strenuous activity, so off the bike I think for that unless i do super careful power-limited trainer work. I'm not smart enough to ride gently.

Will see the result when I am allowed to try talking about next week. Total voice rest for 3 days and then super-super-super-careful for 4 more.

Nice pics!

So is the new $158 setup 8x better than the $20 light?
